Hi I'm Rachel Ma'aola Purcell

I'm a student at Brigham Young University. I'm Samoan. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hi! My name is Rachel. There are a total of 5 children in my family. I'm the only girl, so I've had quite the adventurous upbringing. People always ask me if I wish I had a sister, and my answer is always no. I wouldn't change anything about my family. I love my brothers and parents with all my heart. I am Samoan by ethnicity, and am very proud to be. The beautiful Samoan culture is something that I cherish. I am currently a student at Brigham Young University, but am putting my education on hold for 18 months to serve a church mission. I will be serving in the Micronesia Guam Mission from June 2013- December 2014. I am so unbelievably stoked! I am an aunt to 4 of the most adorable kids in the universe! Yes, that's a fact. They are tremendous blessings in my life. I love to eat seafood, I love to sing loud in the car and shower, I love watching the National Geographic channel, I love spending time with my immediate and extended family, and I love learning more about the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon, or a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints because I truly believe that it is the only true church. I was raised my whole life in this church, but I chose for myself to continue being a member of this church in my troubled teen years. I was not forced by my parents or anyone else. I'm a Mormon because I choose to be. I know that this church teaches the true and complete Gospel of Jesus Christ. We have the fullness of the Gospel, which can bring eternal happiness to all that accept it. I know it because I'm experiencing it right now. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, another testament of Jesus Christ, our Savior. I know that the prophet Joseph Smith translated that book by the power of God, and that he was a honest man. I know that God still calls prophets today, as in times of old. The current prophet of God being President Thomas S. Monson. Heavenly Father loves us so much, and wishes to help us return to Him through prophecies. And lastly, I know that Jesus Christ died for you and for me through the miraculous Atonement. He is our Savior and Redeemer. He is the only way back to our Heavenly Father, the source of eternal happiness. I know that all these things are true, and I hope that you'll put the effort into finding out for yourself if these things are true or not.

How I live my faith

It's quite simple how I live my faith. I just try to follow the example of Jesus Christ. But of course, this is much easier said than done. I go to church every Sunday. I read my scriptures everyday. I spend time with my family and treat them with love and respect. I treat myself with love and respect. I pray several times a day to strengthen my relationship with Heavenly Father. I try to love others that may not love me back. I look for opportunities to serve those who are in need of my help. I stay away from drugs, alcohol, and other addictive substances. I live a virtuous life. I attend the temple regularly, and prepare myself to marry there someday. I am a daughter of God. I try to live my life in a way that honors that title.
