Hi I'm Laura Barker

I've lived in Utah my entire life. I love jazz, family, and friends. I am a missionary in the Great Ohio Columbus Mission!

About Me

I have a strong love for music, especially jazz. I play the tenor saxophone. When I was little, I wanted to grow up and be Pikachu. Now that I'm grown up I want to be a jazz musician or a band teacher! I love to read excellent books (mostly science fiction) and I love the Gospel! The peace that the Gospel brings to my life and the lives of others is astounding:)

Why I am a Mormon

I have chosen to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints because the Gospel brings peace in times of trial. Peace that no other organization on this earth can offer. The knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is a source of light and joy in my life and in the lives of so many others-a joy and light that cannot be found anywhere else. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints is Jesus Christ's church reestablished on the earth again to bless the lives of all who will follow Jesus' teachings and commandments. The Church has blessed my life and my family in times of hardship and trial and in times of joy. I have been on my mission in the Ohio Columbus Mission since August 2013, and I love it. It's been challenging, but it has also been so rewarding. I am serving on the Ohio State University campus, and there is never a dull moment here. I love the opportunity I have to share the Book of Mormon with all who will listen. The Book of Mormon has truly changed my life. I know that it's true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by example. I try to show my friends and family how the Gospel can change your life. I am serving a full-time mission, so I show my faith by the way I interact with others and by bearing my testimony of the Book of Mormon and of Joseph Smith and my Savior, Jesus Christ.

What is being a Mormon like?

Laura Barker
Being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Days Saints is wonderful! The Gospel of Jesus Christ blesses my life and the lives of my family members. When we are worthy to enter a temple of the Lord, we have the chance to be sealed to our families for all eternity, and who wouldn't want that? Being a Mormon has given me the chance to create many friendships that I hold most dear. I'm a missionary now, so I have the opportunity to share the message of The Gospel and the joy and light that accompanies it with all who will listen. Being a Mormon is awesome! Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Laura Barker
It is true! In the New Testament, in the book of John, Jesus Christ said, "Other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd." He was talking about the people who live on the American continent anciently, and He did appear to them and they did see and hear Him. That is why the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ! It does not detract or deny that Jesus is the Christ, it affirms it. Show more Show less
