Hi I'm Matt

I have lived most of my life in Devon in the UK. I'm a bit of a geek. I love sports and being active. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a bit of a nerd. I enjoy playing nerd games with a group of friends where we will usually play games such as Pathfinder or Dungeons and Dragons. Moving on from my nerdiness, I have also enjoyed training and competing with my local rowing club, Exeter Rowing Club. We have competed across the country even gaining a win on the National Watersports Centre lake in Nottingham. I have now raced on the Olympic lake in 2 on 2 different occasions. I was in our men's 8+ boat for Henley, but sadly we never made it to the knockout races. In addition to racing at some of these prestigious events, we have also had a lot of success at different local events, often getting a medal or tankard for winning. I usually am the coxen, but I have previously been a rower too. I also enjoy snowboarding. My brother and I both decided that we would like to have a go and found that we both loved it. We aren't the best in the world, and have had some embarrassing falls and even one concussion, but we are learning and hope to get much better soon. I love music. I play guitar and will soon be moving on to study my grade 4 acoustic guitar course. I have also recently been involved with my church choir and regularly can be seen energetically singing along to music in my car (may have even had a few embarrassing moments at traffic lights with drivers in the cars next to me). My music taste can be incredibly varied from classical piano to Queen, Disney to Church music, musicals to the top 40 chart songs.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents are both members of the church and I as brought up as a member, but as I got older I realised that I couldn't keep going to church just because my parents did. I decided to read the Book of Mormon for myself. I decided to read the Book of Mormon for myself. If the Book of Mormon was true then I would continue going to church and trying to live according the teaching of the gospel. If it was not true then I was going to have to try and find the truth. After I began reading the Book of Mormon I realised that it was truly the word of God and is another testament of Jesus Christ that works with the Bible to show us how God would like us to live our lives. Because I knew that the Book of Mormon is true I was able to extrapolate that knowledge to other aspects of the gospel. If the book of Mormon is true then the Bible is true as far as it is correctly translated. If the bible is true then Jesus Christ came to earth and atoned for the sins of the world. If the Book of Mormon is true then Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. If Joseph Smith was a prophet of God then we have a living prophet of God who leads the church today. If Joseph Smith was a prophet of God then Christ's church has been restored and so has the authority to act in His name. Over time I have now receive spiritual witnesses and had spiritual experiences that have confirmed each of these aspects of the gospel so that I don't have to rely only on one spiritual experience of the Book of Mormon, but I have loads of different experiences that I can use to support my testimony. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. I know that prayer works. I know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's church. I know that we are lead by a prophet of God. I know that Jesus Christ is my brother. I know that Jesus Christ loves me. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior. I know that Jesus Christ died for me. I know that Jesus Christ lives again.

How I live my faith

In my ward I am called to help with the primary children and help with the teaching of the 9-10 year old class or the 11-12 year old class, depending on where I am needed. It is so much fun to teach the little children even if they sometimes like to go off on a bit of a tangent and talk about their favourite TV show! I am also a home teacher, which means that I go with another assigned companion to teach and look out for certain families and individuals that we are assigned to teach. We try to visit with them 1 a month, but if our timetables do not work out then a simple phone call to ensure that they are doing well will have to do. I have also been preparing to serve a mission and I have been called to serve in the Australia Adelaide mission! I will leave early in the spring of 2017 and will return to the UK 2 years later. I will be serving the people in the specific areas where I am assigned and I will be teaching those who are interested about the gospel, so that they can have the opportunity to pray about the teaching of the Book of Mormon and make their own informed decision.
