Hi I'm Yesi Hoyos

I was born and raised in Southern California. I am studying art. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am going to college. I just finished my first year. I am studying to be an artist. I like to sketch and draw or paint on my free time. My favorite thing to do is spend time with people that I love. I love meeting new people! I was born into the Christian-Catholic faith. One day, my mom had seen a Mormon ad on T.V. and called to order a bible for her bother. The missionaries came to drop it off, and from there my family started taking lessons. A few months later, my family joined the church. I had just turned nine years old. I have been a member for over ten years now, and I can't imagine how my life would have been if I didn't grow up in the church. It is often difficult being the only Mormons in the whole family. During family get togethers, my relatives like to drink alcoholic beverages, coffee, or smoke tobacco. My parents, siblings, and I do tend to stand out, however, it is not a bad thing. I am grateful to be able to set an example to the rest of my relatives. Having the majority of my family be nonmember has helped me to accept and love all different kinds of people, even those who do not share my belief and standards. I have friends of many different faiths and ways of living and I accept them for who they are, and I am grateful that they accept me too. It has been a blessing to prepare for a mission and to share a little bit about the church and what a mission is with my non-member friends and family. I am hoping that I can be a good example to them always.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this church contains the restored Gospel; its the same church Jesus Christ established during His life and ministry. I wasn't always sure if this church was true. I had my doubts, as many of us have. There were times in my life that I felt true despair. I felt lost, alone, and hopeless. But I remember picking up the Book of Mormon and reading it, and in that moment something came over me that I will never forget. I just felt loving arms wrap themselves around me and suddenly, I wasn't alone. I just knew that the Book of Mormon was true and that the prophet Joseph Smith restored the gospel of Christ back on the Earth. I knew that the feeling I felt was the Holy Spirit confirming these truths in my heart, and I knew that my Heavenly Father loved me. HE LOVES ME! And since that day I have never felt alone. Yes, I still have tough times; I am not perfect at all, but I know that this church is true and nothing can shake my faith. I am a Mormon, I believe in Christ, I love God, and my goal in life is to let the world know what I have been so fortunate to know. I have found happiness and joy beyond measure since being in the church. I know that I will experience much more joy in the eternities. This church is my foundation. Now I know my purpose in life, I know where I am going and what I need to do to get there. I love this gospel! Its one of the most precious gifts God's given us. I am grateful to be a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I like serving others, whether it be by volunteering in the community or helping a friend out with a dilemma. I think I am better at helping others on a personl level. I am the "go-to' friend when it comes to times of distress. My callings are in my ward choir and in the activities committee, where I help plan and give ideas for activities that we can do as a ward and invite people to participate in them. I love inviting non-member friends to these activities. I feel like it is the best way to get someone interested about the church. Some of the activities we have done are kayaking, riding a hot air balloon, pool parties, riding bikes on the beach, hiking...ect. The church has a great way of getting people to socialize. We all become one great big family, which is really great for me because I love getting close to people. These are people that I know I can depend on any hour of the day. There are no group of people more loving and caring than the members of the church. I live my faith by trying to develope Christlike attributes. I am learning to love everyone as he loved us and I dedicate my life to the service of others.
