Hi I'm Marie

I am a college student. I love to travel. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I like having fun with those around me! My family and my friends are my favorite people because they make me laugh. They each have a different perspective on life and I love that! I love traveling and learning new cultures, I find it fascinating! In high school I loved playing on my school's field hockey team, and participating in plays and choirs.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been raised by wonderful parents who understood the great blessings of living the gospel. They have always guided me to choose the right choices without forcing my hand. They gave me the tools I needed personally to seek after the truth for myself, and to gain my own testimony and knowledge of the restored gospel. Because of their example I have been able to establish my own relationship with my Heavenly Father, and I will forever be grateful for that. I am a Mormon because I know that my Heavenly Father loves me. I know He sent His son Jesus Christ to atone for our sins and that because of Him we can live as a family together in the next life. I know this is the same church Christ had organized in His day restored to this earth. And I know that it is here for our benefit. There have been too many experiences in my life where I have seen the hand of the Lord blessing me or those around me. I have felt His love for me and know that through His grace I can do anything, and persevere through any trial I face in this life.

How I live my faith

My faith comes up often as I choose to live gospel standards. I grew up in an area where there weren't many Mormons in my high school but we were still known by our faith to our peers. Throughout high school it was known that we didn't do certain things such as swearing, drinking coffee and tea or alcoholic beverages, or use drugs of non-medicinal purpose. It was also known that we attended a class early morning of religious instruction. I love attending church services! When I was younger it was a fun place to see my friends, but now I have a deep appreciation for my loving Father in Heaven, despite whatever I feel my social standings with others at church. I get the wonderful opportunity to teach the eight year children! They usually end up teaching me more than I think I teach them. Overall what I love about fellow members is everyone's willingness to serve one another. Whether if it is the most insignificant of issues, someone is there to help. I can't count the number of meals friends have brought for our family or helped give us a ride when our car broke down.

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Often times my friends ask me about my membership in the church and how I could stand having so many "rules." The explanation I always give them is simply that they aren't rules that anyone is enforcing, except for myself. I understand why there are guidelines set and the consequences of choosing to either follow that guidance, or to choose another path. I have seen in my life that yes, to be a Mormon comes with it a different lifestyle from the rest of the world, but it is because we understand why we do what we do. I understand that the reason the Lord has given us outlines, is because He loves us and wants us to have as much joy and help in this life as we can get. Show more Show less
