Hi I'm Maureen

I am a wife, mother to five children (one boy, four girls), four grandchildren (one girl, three boys). I'm a Mormon

About Me

I love my family and I love being with them, talking to them, skyping with them etc. It is one of the happiest parts of my week. My children are aged between 29 and 19 (four of them married to wonderful people), our youngest is still living at home. It is great to see their lives develop and their families start to grow. For many years I was told that the best part of having children was becoming a grandparent and now I know that is so true. I have found that your grandchildren grow up even faster than your children did and that if you think your children are fabulous, that goes double for grandchildren! I joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when I was 15 years old. I remember being taught by the missionaries and feeling right at home with what they were teaching me. I had the beginnings of a testimony then, I knew what they were teaching me was true and that I wanted to join and be involved. I have been blessed to meet some wonderful people in the Church who have lifted me and strengthened me throughout my life. I was blessed to meet my wonderful husband Stephen and we married for time and eternity when I was 21. My parents also joined the Church when I was 16. I came home from school one day and they said they had seen such a change in me for good that they wanted to find out about the church I was going to. I am very grateful that they had a desire to know more.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know it is the true Church of Jesus Christ. I am a Christian, I follow Jesus Christ and I am grateful for His example and for His Atonement. Since I joined the church at 15 years old I have met many people who have been wonderful examples to me and had many special experiences. My testimony of the truth of the church has continued to grow and develop through these examples and experiences. I have been grateful to have had the opportunity to study scriptures, to serve others, to raise a family, to learn that my Father in Heaven loves me as He has supported me through good times and through difficult times. Seven years ago, within 9 months of each other, my beloved parents passed away. This was a challenge for me. For all my life I had felt that this life was not the beginning of our existence nor that our existence ended at death. For the first time I was faced with the challenge of really deciding whether this was a true fact. Through a number of beautiful experiences following the passing of my parents, through prayers and through answers given to my heart, I can now say without a doubt that I will meet with my parents again one day and that the doctrine of a pre-existence and life continuing after our mortal journey has ended is true. It is a great blessing and comfort to have this knowledge in my life.

How I live my faith

In my adult life in the church I have pretty much always worked with children. I absolutely love working with them, teaching them, sharing their experiences, laughing with them and fun things they say and when I am not called to work with them, even for a few months, I miss being with the children so much. It is nice to work with other members of the church as we plan lessons, activities etc. I have made many firm friends through the many years I have been a member of the church and had some wonderful experiences as I have served. Being a member of the church is like being in a really big family. It is wonderful to know that we can care for one another and help each other. It has been a blessing in my life as others have helped me sometimes, for example if I have been ill and they have brought in a meal or helped when my children were young. It has also been a wonderful blessing to repay those kindnesses and help others when needed.
