Hi I'm Alan Milner

I'm from Scunthorpe, living in York. I'm a perspective Business Student. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm Alan and I'm 20. I moved to York after losing my job and decided to try and pursue more of an education in Business. I really enjoy playing basketball and love watching it, along with American Football. I've not been able to serve a mission up to now, but it is something I may be able to look at and strive towards in the future. I'm from a family of six; two older brothers, two older sisters and one younger sister. Active in the church, there is just me and my Mum. I play the piano to an okay standard. Back home I used to be the ward pianist, which was a really good calling. I was a part time DJ for a while and I still DJ for some Regional Youth Dances. It's an amazing thing to be asked to do, because really, I'm trying to keep the youth coming to a safe space where they can enjoy safe music with the people who will help to build up their faith and strengthen their testimonies.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were baptised before I was born, so I was fortunate to be born into the Gospel, but this doesn't mean that I was forced into it. I've always had the choice of coming to church and getting and developing my testimony was my choice. I'm so glad that I was able to stay in the church, even when the rest of my family started to fall away. Sometimes it does get me down, thinking about my brothers and sisters and my father not coming out. But all I can do is to set an example for them and hopefully, one day, they will see the joy that living the Gospel has brought to me and can bring to them.

How I live my faith

Back home, I used to be on the Young Mens Presidency and I loved working with the youth. You learn so many things when trying to teach and mentor the youth and it's such a rewarding calling. I also used to be a Stake YSA Representative and had the pleasure of going to speak to the Chinese group of the Hull Ward. Most of these were students who have only heard the Gospel recently in England, but their testimonies were so strong that it was uplifting and inspiring.
