Hi I'm Erika

I'm from California. I'm studying to become a high school English teacher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Erika and I am a junior in college studying to become a high school English teacher. I grew up in California and I am the youngest of four children. I have my private pilot's license and can fly Cessna 172 airplanes. I love to read, and I write poetry. I also love music and I attend many alternative rock and indie concerts. My life is busy and I try to fill my time with activities that give my time here on earth meaning and purpose. I love to travel and learn about different places around the world. Last year, I went on a study abroad in Jerusalem, Israel for four months. I love expanding my knowledge about this earth and the people and cultures on it. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has added a deeper level of meaning to my life, and I know that when I live in accordance with the principles that Jesus Christ taught, I am happier and feel free from the burdens of life that used to drag me down.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints my entire life, but it wasn't until I was a teenager that I really considered whether or not this church contains the true gospel of Jesus Christ. I read the Book of Mormon with the intent to know whether or not it was a true book, one that was translated by the prophet Joseph Smith and contained the word of God and the teachings of Jesus Christ. I prayed, pleading with my Heavenly Father, to know if this church that my family was part of contained the truth that I wanted in my life. I received a confirmation from the Holy Spirit--a peace within my soul, and I knew that the Book of Mormon was a true book. As my testimony grew, I recognized not just the truthfulness of the doctrines of the church, but also the joy and blessings that being a member of this church provides for me. I know that this gospel of Jesus Christ is true. I know that God loves me and that I am his daughter. I know that in these days, we have a restored church organization with a Prophet of God to lead us. I will never be able to deny the powerful feelings that have confirmed the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ. I have felt the changing forces of the atonement in my life and I know that participating in this gospel has given my life meaning and has brought peace and joy through turbulent times.

How I live my faith

I am an active participant in my local church congregation. I have taught in our women's group at church on Sundays. I also participate in visiting teaching--a program in the LDS church where women visit one another, share a spiritual message with them, and help with whatever they need. I love to serve others through my participation in church. I know that God loves me, and because I love Him, I seek to serve Him in whatever ways I can. Living a life that is centered on Jesus Christ gives meaning to my life and makes my purpose in life more clear to me.
