Hi I'm Shay

I'm young. I study literature. My dream is to play the accordion. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I just finished my second year at Brigham Young University where I study Comparative Literature. I am now serving a mission in the beautiful land of Estonia. I grew up in a tiny town in Utah and have lived in Utah all of my life. I am the youngest of seven children and I have a twin sister I adore! I have a dog whom I probably love a little too much. I have a passion for studying and analyzing the arts. Sitting in front of a painting and writing a paper about it is what I call fun. I love film. I love reading anything from classics to fantasy. I love music! Growing up, I played the piano along with the cello, organ, and the Scottish snare drum. As a result of my education, I hope to pursue a career in education. Whether that be teaching or library science, I have no idea. All I know is that I love learning and I want to spread that love. I'm only twenty years old with so much to learn, but I'm loving every bit of it!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. It makes me happy because I know I have a loving Heavenly Father. He has a plan for us and He is so very aware of us. He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins. The Atonement gives me comfort with the knowledge that through Christ, I can be forgiven of my sins. In addition, I know that Christ has gone through everything I have and will ever go through. He is someone I can turn to in times of sadness and loneliness. He knows my weaknesses and knows I will make mistakes, but I have come to learn that the power of the Atonement is infinite. As I try to become better, I know that I can always turn to my loving Savior. I don't claim that I know everything about the gospel. I am constantly learning and I am continually receiving confirmations that the gospel is true. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints--His church--urges me to become a better person, to serve others, and therefore, fills me with so much joy.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith through everything I do. More specifically, I have participated a lot in my ward through my musical abilities. I've had many callings that have included playing the piano and organ for church meetings. I have also been a piano accompanist to ward choirs. Most recently, I served as a teacher to the sisters in my Young Single Adult ward. It was one of the scariest things I've ever done! Getting up and speaking in front of people isn't exactly my favorite thing to do. But I learned so much from preparing lessons for the sisters. It consisted of a lot of praying and preparation to become aware of what I needed to teach that was in accordance with the sisters' needs. This opportunity gave me a love for teaching which, in turn, prepared me for my next big calling! I am now serving as a missionary to the people of Estonia. I am thrilled to be living my faith by serving the Lord for 18 months with a message that offers peace and happiness through the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
