Hi I'm Matthew Duffy

I grew up in a great family, with a love of reading books, and the great outdoors. I'm an Eagle Scout, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a then rural area of Utah among many good people. I was taught by my parents to always be respectful to the people around me and give them a helping hand. My experience in the Boy Scouts of America and that teaching from my parents shaped me into the person I am today: a man who loves to read, and help other people, who enjoys learning, the great outdoors, cooking, and photography, and more things to list than I'll ever have time to do. I am a college student learning American Sign Language which I hope to use someday to teach students who are deaf or hard of hearing, like myself.

Why I am a Mormon

I did not grow up a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I grew up with several very good friends who challenged me to join them at church but I preferred being with my family and only went when they accepted an invitation for a special occasion. One summer my Dad and I were invited to a camp-out with other young men who were beginning to prepare to serve as missionaries. Dad and I began talking with the missionaries after that, where we learned more about the plan that God has for everyone to return to live with Him. Since I had never been taught a lot about God and a life after death I appreciated hearing that I would be able to see my grandfather again, who had died three years before. I learned that I could talk with the Father of my spirit, that He would hear me and that I could know that what the missionaries taught was true. Three and a half years later I was able to become a full time missionary and share what I had learned with other people, that experience has taught me even more about the goodness of God and how much he wants everyone to return to Him.

How I live my faith

As I go about my daily life I try to find a way I can be helpful to people, to share the love of Jesus Christ by simply serving in any way I can. I appreciate learning more about the Savior and the way he lived, loved, served, and taught, so that someday I can be as much like Him as possible and give everyone around me the opportunity to rise to that great example as well. Christ is the one through whom we can receive strength to carry on under any circumstance, the way we can overcome our weaknesses and trials, and He will prepare us to live with Him and our Heavenly Father for eternity. God has called men to be leaders of His children in ages past and has again given us a prophet who teaches us of the commandments, warns us of dangers and how to escape them, and it is a joy and a treasure to me to listen to his words.
