Hi I'm Elder Jeremy Parker

I play piano, organ, and trombone. I love all kinds of sports. Currently I am serving a mission in the California Carlsbad Mission

About Me

I am the oldest of 7 kids and I am heavily involved in music and sports. Its been pretty much my life up until I graduated from high school. Up until that point I was just spinning my wheels deciding what to do. It was kind of an interesting situation. Its hard when you don't know which direction to go or what to do and that's why we have a faith. Our faith is there when nothing else is. Recently the Prophet, Thomas S. Monson received direction to lower the age for missionary service to age 18. That was all I needed. That was my answer and I ran with it. I knew that the church was true and I had sincerely sought out my own answers. That's how we learn after all. With this knowledge and belief at my back I decided to serve a mission for the Lord and go where he would have me go, or where he needed me. This led to me being called to serve a mission in Southern California, in the Carlsbad area. It was the best decision I have made. It has made a world of difference. Just to show how big an impact this faith has had on me, just think of it this way. What could possess an 18 year old boy to give 2 years of his life, go nearly 3000 miles from home, leaving family and friends, and teach the gospel of Jesus Christ and take abuse for it every day of his mission? Nothing, unless it were absolutely true, and he knew that he needed to do it. I know that this Church is true, and that it is Christ's restored church again on the earth.

Why I am a Mormon

Questions. Its all about what you really want to know and what you will do to get your answer. Although I was raised in the church and prayer came easily to me it still was not just a one and done kind of thing. I had read the Book of Mormon a lot and read it for comfort and for strength when I ran across a hard time or just when I wasn't the happiest I could have been. During that time I would almost always remember that there is a promise in the Book of Mormon. One that I had heard about my entire life and one that I had personally considered on countless occasions. The promise is that if we read and pray to know if it is true, we will receive an answer from God. Again, I had heard this a lot and I was pretty sure I believed that I would get an answer. That's where the faith came in. Another part of the crucial test was understanding how I would hear the answer that I wanted. I knew that God didn't have to respond in a way that I would immediately recognize but that he might want me to try to listen to my thoughts and feelings. This led to the dilemma of trying to determine if God would speak through my own thoughts or whether I would feel something entirely independent of myself giving me the answer that I was looking for. Was the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints true, or was it not? Was the Book of Mormon true, or was it not? Was Joseph Smith a prophet, or was he not? All of these questions still weighed on me. As I kept asking I started to recognize my answer. It was a mixture of my own thoughts and a distinct feeling that it was true. It didn't rock my world but it was a quiet knowledge. This has been something that I have sought for again and again whenever I have questions. I recognized the pattern of answers that God had given me in my own life.

How I live my faith

The work of a missionary is very different and strange if you are not a missionary. We spend our days helping others and doing our best to reach out to every single person. We will talk to anyone and everyone and be a friend to them as best we can. We help them understand how important it is for them to know about the plan that God has for each and every one of us. We teach others more about the Restored Church of Jesus Christ and how everything that Christ brought to the earth when he was alive is back again, and all of the blessings, power, and authority are back again as well. We know that families are meant to be eternal and that God is a loving Father in Heaven and that we are all literally his Spirit children. That gives each and everyone of us a deep and intrinsic worth. That is why God sent his Son Jesus Christ to sacrifice himself and take our mistakes on himself. We all make mistakes and no one is exempt from that. We have all done things that we either regret or that we wished we had never done or had ever experienced. That is why we need Jesus Christ. He went through everything we could ever experience and he knows exactly how to help us out of it. I know that he does. I have seen it in my own life. It has changed me and made me better than I was. He will continue to push us forward to become the people that we were meant to be. I know that we are meant to go back to live with him and with our Father in Heaven along with our families forever. This is the reason I live my faith.
