Hi I'm Colten Brooks

I'm 19 years old. I'm currently serving a mission in Goiania, Brazil. I play the piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love playing Baseball! I have played since I was 5 years old! I also have a passion for Piano. I play by ear and teach myself how to play songs. It is a way that I bring peace into my life. I am the oldest of 6 kids! I have 4 brothers and 1 sister and the best parents in the world. I am currently serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Goiania, Brazil. I am an Eagle scout. When I return home from my mission, I want to get into medical school to study opthalmology. I enjoy going to the lake with friends and I love watching movies! I listen to all kinds of music! Music is one of my favorite things in the world! Overall, I'm just a happy person!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I was raised as a member of the church. But I still had to decide for myself if this church is true. Through prayer and study, I was able to gain my own testimony of the truthfullness of this gospel. I am still growing in areas of my testimony but I do know that this is the true church. This gospel means so much to me because I know where I came from, why I'm here, and where I'm going. It brings me happiness and assures me that I can be with my family forever.

How I live my faith

I have served many callings in the church since I was 12 years old. I was a Deacon's quorum president when i was 13. I served as the Teachers quorum president when I was 15. I served as the Priest quorum secretary when i was 17. I have served as a home-teacher. I also taught 2 primary classes for 6 months! I love their sweet testimonies! I love the youth of the church because of their strong faith and courage to stand out in this world. I am currently serving a mission in Goiania, Brazil. It is my job to teach people about this church so they can experience the joy that it brings me.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Colten Brooks
The Book of Mormon is "Another Testament of Jesus Christ." Although we believe the Bible is true and we completely believe in it's teachings and messages, we base our religion on The Book of Mormon. We understand that the Bible and Book of Mormon testify of eachother and go hand-in-hand. The Book of Mormon came to be by several ancient prophets who engraved their geneology and and records of their people into golden and brass plates (just like the Bible). As the Bible talks about Christ's ministry and death, the Book of Mormon testifies of His resurrection and His visiting of the Americas to his "other sheep" of which He spoke about in the New Testament. It testifies of Christ and his teachings and further revelation that isn't found in the Bible. Joseph Smith in September of 1827 recieved these ancient plates after Moroni-a ressurected prophet from the Book of Mormon-appeared to him and told him where to find them. Joseph Smith translated these plates with Heavenly Fathers help and made it a book. Since then, the Book of Mormon has changed millions of lives because of the promise found in Moroni 10:4. After we read it, we ask God if it's true, the Holy Ghost will confirm to us that it is. I know it is true and I plead for you and everyone to find out for yourself. Show more Show less
