Hi I'm Sam

I am a life-long learner, an artist, a musician, a brother, a friend. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am the fourth of six children. Though undecided in my career course, at college I love to learn and discover truth through reading, analyzing, and applying. Being home ten months from a full time mission in Barranquilla Colombia, I feel an expanded understanding of the world and love for latin-american culture. I am quiet, contemplative, and calm. Yet I thrive off of human interaction and seeing others progress. I enjoy a variety of hobbies from playing the alto saxophone, to drawing and painting, to enjoying nature and eating delicious food. My greatest values are family, developing integrety, and serving others' needs.

Why I am a Mormon

Conversion is a process in which I am still participating. Yet I have chosen to remain a member of the LDS church because I know that it helps me live the fullness of Jesus Chrst's teachings. That knowlege did not arive in one revelatory experience. Instead it came as I humbly searched, asked, and lived the commandments. Though many people question their place in the church, I know from experience that this church is applicable for each individual situation. As I walked the dusty, humid, sizzling-hot, streets of Colombia, I often wondered why I had chosen to give up two years of study and work to talk to people I didn't know. But then, when I saw the change within those who chose to accept and apply the message we shared, I realized that this is the only thruth which brings sincere and profound joy. I now know without a doubt that I am a son of my Heavenly Father. I know that Jesus Christ lives and is commited to helping each individual in their need. I know that He reveales His will through prayer and revelation, and through living prophets. I testify that the gospel I now live is the same that Jesus taught to His disciples and to which ancient prophets died for. I know that through the authority given to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, every person can recieve ordinances essential for salvation and eternal life. Through that same authortity, marriage will continue after death's sepparating influence. I invite all to taste of the joy and peace available through accepting this truth. It is available to all no matter age, race, gender, social or financial status. I am eternally greatful for the change I have recieved through being a member of this church.

How I live my faith

For me, being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is a life-time commitment and a central part of who I am. I gladly volunteer and participate in the church and find great joy in working in a temple where special ordinances are done for the living and those who have passed away. I attend a ward that is meant specifically for single, young adults. there, we have many opportunities to organize activities and fellowship other peers. I get to visit members every month who might be struggling and having a hard time. Also, I have the special opportunity to teach outh who are preparing to serve full-time missions. I get to remember and teach all I learned while I served in a foreign land.
