Hi I'm Kim Eckman

I'm a marathon running, sweet singing Idaho farm girl serving a mission in the South...and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

When the wind is blowing through my hair and I stand on the top of a mountain I scaled overlooking the beauty of God's creation, I am the happiest! I was born in one of the most beautiful states and grew up living the best lifestyle! There is nothing better than being on the back of a horse completely filthy and sweaty rounding' up cows. One of my very fondest childhood memories was going to the cattle auction with my dad and picking out a few calves to raise. My dad gave me one of my own to teach me hard work and responsibility. I remember feeding that sweet calf with an over sized bottle and loving every minute of it. I didn't always love the responsibility however, when it was blowing and snowing and my dad got me out of bed to feed the cows. As I look back though, I've realized how truly blessed I was to be raised in the environment I was. I know the satisfaction that comes from a job well done and from hard physical labor! That drive to work hard also helped my to become a successful runner! I started out as most kids do. on the track team in junior high. Why I did that? I am not quite sure because at the time I HATED running. But over the years, the more I did it, the more I loved it. Now it is my escape. When I run, it clears my head and enables me to feel confident and happy. I am working on my life goal of running 100 marathons. I also love anything outdoors! I have dreams to scale the Grand Teton, hike the Appalachian Trail, and be an incredible snowboarder.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that joy should be a HUGE part of our life. God truly wants us to be happy! When I take time to focus on Jesus Christ and live by his teachings I feel pure joy. Being a member of this church has taught me to love others the way Christ sees them, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, or social status. I know that as we love others, we can influence their life for good. The world is digressing at an alarming rate, but we can combat that with love; love for our family, love for friends, love for our spouse, love for people we may not even know, and most importantly, love for God. We can have a positive influence on the world around us! I grew up as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but there was a time in my life where I had to decide for myself if the teaching really were true. I had questions like: Is the Book of Mormon really another testament of Jesus Christ? Is it really the word of God? If it is... that means that Joseph Smith is a true prophet of God and that he was instrumental in restoring Christ's church in it's correct form back on the earth. If the Book of Mormon is truly the word of God, it proves a lot of things. I had to know for myself. I studied it's words, pondered the message it contains, and asked God if it is true. I got my answer. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. And that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I know how important it is to strive to be the kind of person that Christ was. This world is becoming increasingly busy and promotes serving ourselves and our interests first.Like many people, I have fallen into that trap. I felt unsatisfied with my life and the person that I was. I desired simply to be happy. Over time I realized that true joy and happiness comes only when we are in the service of others and in the service of our God. After attending college for two years and spending most of my time focused on myself, I decided that at this point in my life I need to take some time to serve others and share with them the one thing that has brought me indescribable joy and direction...the gospel of Jesus Christ. I am currently in North Carolina and walk the streets as Jesus did, spreading his word. I work in soup kitchens feeding the hungry and lifting them with kind words, just as Jesus did. I talk with church members to inspire and encourage them to reach out to their friends and family members, just as Jesus did. For this year and a half that I have sacrificed to serve others and God, I am living my faith by inviting others to come unto Christ to see what Jesus Christ can do for them in their lives.
