Hi I'm Jacob

I lived most of my life in Southern California. I am a missionary in the Dominican Republic. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the middle child of 7 and also the middle son of 3. I am a student at BYU and will be taking a break from school to serve a mission for my church in the Dominican Republic. I love playing soccer and recently I tore my ACL, MCL and both menisci in my right knee while playing soccer and am recovering from surgery. I love making art even though I'm not super talented in that area. Music will always be apart of my life because without it, life is pretty colorless. I love spending time with my family and even though we are getting older and making our own living, the small moments when my whole family is together makes life worth living.

Why I am a Mormon

I don't come from a terrible background. I have two parents who love me a lot and none of my siblings have gone off the deep end. I have been surrounded by so many happy and loving people at BYU and I've learned how to be happier myself. That being said, I have definitely been faced with trials that made me feel more alone than ever. There came a point where I felt that I couldn't even go to my parents for help. My Heavenly Father communicates to me in many different ways which includes music. One song I was listening to spoke to me which it hadn't done before. The song said, "there's one who knows you perfectly, He can take the hurt away. The healing starts within, just let Him in, and let it begin." At that moment I realized that I wasn't alone, my Heavenly Father had been there the whole time. All I had to do was reach out my own hand to find that His hand was already reaching out for me. I have learned that no matter what I go through, I do not have to do it alone. Jesus Christ suffered everything that I have felt and everything I will feel. He knows how to help me because He suffered the same pains that I felt. This church has brought me more happiness than I could have received on my own and promises me even more happiness after this life. I'm a Mormon because I feel my Saviors love everyday and I am willing to do all that He asks of me so that I can return to Him and my Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

The one thing I love to do that most people may not understand is helping others. It kills me when I see someone unhappy and I knew that there was something I could have done to make their day better. I've been a member my whole life and living in an area where there aren't many Mormons, I get to be an example to lots of people. I went to church every Sunday and when I got to BYU, my religion became much more than just going to church on Sunday. I learned that serving others is the key to facing your own trials because you aren't thinking about yourself all the time. At BYU, I always tried to help my ward with any church activities we had and I tried being an example even in a place where most people are Mormons. I love being active in my church and I feel that if you try to be an example of your church all week and not just on Sunday, people will be more curious about your religion.
