Hi I'm Rachel

I served in the Hawaii Honolulu mission. I love acting, dancing, running & Shakespeare. I'm a daughter, a sister, & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am going to college to graduate in psychology. Then, I hope to go on to get my masters in marriage and family therapy. I enjoy reading, but rarely find time for it. I like to collect things such as miniature spoons and old beads. I can't clean without music playing to make it fun. I love to sing along to the radio when I drive. I grew up in California so I love the sunshine because that's what I'm used to. I was home schooled through a charter school, which provided me and my siblings with a lot of fun opportunities. We always had plenty of pets, including a dog, 3 cockatiels, 2 finches, a guinea pig, 2 fire-bellied newts, 3 dwarf hamsters, fish, a tortoise, a snake, 3 hermit crabs, 8 chickens, and a tarantula. I served as a missionary in the Hawaii Honolulu Mission. I am so grateful for the wonderful opportunity that I had to meet so many people and serve there.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that the things I have learned about the gospel are true. I study and learn the principles and doctrines, then try to put them in to practice in my life. As I do this, with faith, and ask my Heavenly Father in prayer if these things are true, I feel a special warmth and peace, and I know that this is true. I see the way the God blesses us as we do good things and follow His teachings. He loves all of us so much, and He knows us individually. He wants what is best for us so that we can find joy, and one day return to live with Him, and our loved ones forever. I know that if we ask Him, with sincerity and with a true desire to do what is right, He will give us the answers and guidance that we need in our lives.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by fulfilling my callings (or jobs) in the church. One semester, when I was going to school, I had two really fun callings. I got to be one of the group leaders for a "family night" group. They call one guy and one girl to lead each group of 24, so they often referred to me as "mom" and him as "dad". It was fun to set up activities and lessons each week so that we could learn more about the gospel and have fun together. Another calling that I had was to serve at the Utah state hospital every week. A group of us would walk the participants to church and sit with them during their church meeting, then we would walk them back. It was so neat to see the light in their faces as they talked with us and enjoyed the Sunday meeting.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

We do not worship Joseph Smith. We worship God, our Heavenly Father. We do believe that God has called prophets throughout history, such as Adam, Noah, and Moses. We believe that Joseph Smith is a prophet, called of God, just like those previously named. Just in the same way that the people of ancient times were blessed and happy when they followed the teachings of the prophets, we believe that even today, we should follow the teachings and guidance of prophets, even Joseph Smith. So, we do not worship him, but we respect him and are so grateful for all that he did to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with the earth. Show more Show less
