Hi I'm Shelby Patterson

I'm an Oregonian, nursing student, missonary, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a college student at Brigham Young University in Utah. I LOVE being a nursing student there. But I'm putting this dream on hold for a while to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine. I'm so excited to be able to share the gospel which brings me so much joy with others in Ukraine.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born in to a family that already were members of the Mormon church. I always felt that the church was true but until I was 12 years old I mostly believed based on my parents' testimonies. At 12 I decided to take the challenge found in Moroni 10:3-5 to read the Book of Mormon and ask if it is true. I read the whole book cover to cover and then as I prayed about it I got the answer that of course it was true. I'd always known that the Book of Mormon was true. This is still true to me. Every time I read the scriptures I feel such peace and comfort. That is a feeling that can only come from God. He loves us and wants to bless us. The church and scriptures are such wonderful blessings and I'm so grateful that I've had them in my life from such a young age.

How I live my faith

Living my faith is a part of my everyday life. I do simple things everyday such as daily scripture study and prayer. I go church on Sunday and was a teacher for a family history class during church. The biggest way I am living my faith now is to give up school and friends for 18 months to serve the Lord on a full time mission to Ukraine. Leaving my family and friends has been the hardest thing I've ever done. But putting trust and faith in the Lord I know it will al be worth it in the end.
