Hi I'm Rachel

I live and work in the Washington D.C. Metro area. I am a recent college grad and outdoor enthusiast. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently graduated from Brigham Young University where I studied Recreational and Nonprofit Management. I moved out to Washington DC after graduation and now work for Marymount University. I am hoping to get my masters degree in International Development next fall. I have lived in Leon, Nicaragua and Mbale, Uganda working with (and leading) small teams on sustainable development work project. I want to spend my life helping people in developing countries create better lives for themselves through education. I'm passionate about kindness, culture, languages, and people. I love the outdoors and have spent my life hiking whenever and wherever I can. My life is completely centered around my faith and the knowledge I have of a living God who knows and loves me.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon gives me purpose. Having 'purpose' within my actions, words, and deeds helps make me feel more fulfilled and happy. The Gospel of Jesus Christ teaches that we once lived with God and that he sent us here to work towards and opportunity to become perfect beings and return to live with Him again (because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ). The teachings of Jesus Christ are given to us through the Bible and Book of Mormon. I have studied His life through these books and want to follow the perfect example He has set for us. I want to do this because I have felt of His love for me as I have studied the Book of Mormon and then asked God if it is true. I know that it is. I am Mormon because I believe that life doesn't end when we die. I know that I can be with my loved ones forever and that fuels me to live and practice my faith in a way that will qualify me to live with them, and God, again.

How I live my faith

As I've diligently exercised my faith in Jesus Christ I have found that nearly every aspect of who I am revolves around my desire to serve and be like Him. His gospel encompasses my life. Following Him isn't something that begins and ends with my morning prayers. It's a practice that I take with me wherever I go. The faith that I obtain as I continue to follow Him fuels every thought, action, and word I use. Some days I am weaker than others and make choices that detract from my ability to be fully happy. As I rely on His Atonement to help me overcome the things that pull me away from Him I am able to continue to live my faith and feel more joy in my daily living. I do this through prayer, scripture study, service, and church attendance. I love knowing that I can also rely on Him to help me overcome and conquer my trials, pain, sadness, stress, anxiety, and fear. Because of Him I am learning how to show kindness, give love, and pursue a life that is fulfilling, joyful, and complete.
