Hi I'm Tonia

I am a college student majoring in Deaf Studies in Education. I love dancing. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am at school studying Deaf Studies in Education at college. I am hearing and never met a Deaf person before I started learning, I just had a sampling of the language before studying it and then fell in love with the language. I love art. Dancing, singing, listening to music, looking at and creating art. I enjoy running and try to get myself to remember so I will go. I have moved around the country and into Canada for a bit and have really loved it. I have loved getting to know other people and the different cultures each place offers. I love getting together with friends to watch movies and play games and just have a good time.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have found truth in the gospel and I have found peace. I love this gospel and preparing to serve a mission has only strengthened my testimony as I have studied the scriptures (the Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants) and prayed harder. I have felt the Spirit testify to me when I read the scriptures and when I go to the temple. I feel the Spirit inside my heart just swell and swell till it feels like I'm going to burst inside with so much happiness and joy. It is the sweetest, purest feeling I have ever felt. If I ever have a question I know I can pray and find the answer. If I'm ever feeling alone I know I can pray and my Savior will help me feel His love for me and know that I am never really alone and He is always there supporting me.

How I live my faith

I live my faith everyday in every way I can. I try to be myself around other people, not afraid to live my standards and not afraid to share my beliefs with others. I love getting involved with my ward in the various callings I have had. I have been on the welcoming committee trying to help everyone new feel welcome and a part of the ward. I have been on the service committee planning service projects in the ward and in the community. I am a visiting teacher and visit specific sisters in my ward and make sure they are alright and help them know that they are loved in the ward and that the Lord loves them too. I have received a mission call to the Anaheim California mission where I can share my belief and faith and how it has blessed my life. I will have the chance to help others find the love and the peace that comes from living the gospel.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

A testimony is a conviction, a belief in something. If one has a testimony of the Book Of Mormon they believe that it is a true book, a book sent from God through a modern day prophet. Testimonies come from the Spirit touching our hearts and whispering to us what is true. As we open our hearts to hear the whisperings of the Spirit we can know the truth of all things. What do Mormons believe about “eternal life?”

Eternal life is the chance to live with God again for eternity. Only the clean can live with God, so that means without sin. That's hard to do right? Well that's why we have repentance and a Savior to rely on. As long as we are really trying to live a righteous life and do all the right things, and use the Atonement, the Savior suffering for our sins in the garden, we can be clean and we can live with our Heavenly Father. We lived with Him before this life, and He wants nothing more than for us to be with Him again. That is why He has given us the Atonement. When we gain eternal life we hope to be with our families forever as well, that's why we have eternal marriages as well. We are sealed in the temple, the house of the Lord, and make covenants to live righteously in this life so we can be with God in the next life, and be a family still. Show more Show less
