Hi I'm Joshua Winger

I grew up in Utah, went to high school in Idaho and college at the University of Utah. I'm a Mormon

About Me

Thus far in my life I have focused on my education. I love learning and hope to be able to continue learning throughout my life. My favorite subjects have always been math and science and I am pursuing a bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering. I love playing sports and played golf, football, tennis, basketball, and soccer in high school. I also love baseball, ping-pong, bowling, frisbee, track and anything that can be turned into a friendly competition. I grew up on a small family farm raising sheep mostly but also have raised pigs, cattle, geese, chickens, rabbits, and a llama. With my family I have taken these animals to local fairs around Utah and Idaho showing in the junior livestock program with 4-H and FFA. I competed for my high school FFA chapter in many CDE's and earned my state degree. I was very active in my high school science club, earned my eagle scout award and graduated from seminary. I recently returned from serving in the Rapid City South Dakota Mission. This was one of the best experiences I have had. I grew closer to my Savior Jesus Christ and came to understand myself more. I am now pursuing my bachelor's degree in Materials Science and Engineering and will likely continue to graduate school in the future.

Why I am a Mormon

If I was asked why I was a Mormon 10 years ago I would say because that is what my family is. Now, after facing trials and having to put forth my own effort to "be a Mormon", I would say that I am still a Mormon because I know it is the right thing. I have read the Book of Mormon, prayed about it to my Heavenly Father, and have felt, on multiple occasions, that the Book of Mormon is true, it came from God. I have had many experiences where keeping the commandments has blessed my life tremendously. I enjoy going to church and learning more about what Christ wants for me in my life. This helps me align my life to what the Savior wants. I have found that greater happiness comes into my life when I strive to apply the guidance and council found in the scriptures and from modern prophets. One example is applying guidance about physical well-being. Having a balanced and healthy diet helps me feel good. When I exercise regularly I find that I have more energy throughout the day and a brighter attitude. This council came through the Word of Wisdom (Joseph Smith) as well as from the For the Strength of Youth pamphlet.

How I live my faith

While at college at a student ward, I was on a committee that set up a weekly prayer activity where everyone in the congregation was invited to get to know each other, have some treats and say a prayer together. I am currently serving as a member of the Family Home Evening (FHE) committee where I put together wholesome activities for Young Single Adults (YSA) every Monday. In the past I have served on seminary council, in scouting leadership positions, and as a primary teacher.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Joshua Winger
The Book of Mormon was written by prophets of God that lived in the Americas before and after Christ. Prophets of all ages have testified and taught the gospel of Jesus Christ and how everyone can live that gospel to obtain happiness in this life and joy when we meet God after we die. There was much more written by these prophets than what is contained in the Book of Mormon but we only have a small collection of their writings. The Book of Mormon was mainly organized by one of the last prophets named Mormon. He summarized and commented on some of the writings but also left portions of the writings as they were written by the original prophets. These prophets include Nephi, Alma, Abinadi, Jacob, Mosiah, and others. Joseph Smith did not write the Book of Mormon but only translated what was compiled and written by Mormon and his son Moroni into English. The Book of Mormon is now available in many languages.
