Hi I'm Ethan

I'm from Portland, Oregon. I'm a sports junkie, avid reader, explorer of the outdoors, and family man. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a proud husband and father of two. My wife and I both chose careers in health care and love to work in this field. I love to read from a variety of genres, including historical fiction, classical literature, and biographies. I like to go outside whenever I can to enjoy the scenery and escape worldly distractions. Exercise is also favorite pastime and I am especially fanatical about basketball and tennis.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of this church and initially attended because of my parents. Over time, I've gained a personal conviction that the tenets of my faith are true and unchanging, just as God is. This knowledge has come "line upon line, precept upon precept" and not all at once for me. I've learned that obeying the teachings of the church about abstaining from harmful substances can protect me from physical and spiritual harm. I've learned that prioritizing service to God and family will bring more lasting joy than anything else in this life, including professional success and money. Through continual prayer and soul-searching, I've learned that God is not some unseen and unknowable force, but that He is our Father and is intimately aware of me and my problems. By reading the Book of Mormon, I've learned that God continues to speak to prophets today as in biblical times and that Jesus is my Savior. These statements are not ideas that have been imposed upon me; they have deep personal meaning that has been impressed upon me by countless experiences.

How I live my faith

For almost the past year and a half I have taught primary lessons to children at our church. I am constantly amazed by how the kids can absorb so much of what we do and say, even when it looks like they aren't paying attention. I know even simple lessons about God and His plan for us can have a lasting impact on children. I have been personally touched by numerous mentors and teachers and hope I can do the same for others. In the community, I have volunteered as a student tutor for spanish-speakers in Utah and for students in the DC area.
