Hi I'm Kalin

I'm a university student from the United States, a member of a happy family, a Christian, and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a 21 year old university student living in Provo, Utah. I come from a family of eight, with three sisters and two brothers, and they live in Michigan. I served a two year volunteer mission from 2013-2015 in Auckland, New Zealand, which was on of the best experiences of my life. I'm the oldest child in our family and I love my younger siblings. I would rather spend time with them than anyone else, they are awesome! My favorite memories are of times when we've been together. My family loves to play sports, especially football, basketball and ultimate frisbee. While I was in New Zealand, I learned how to play a little bit of rugby! My mom and dad have been great examples to all of us kids and they've done the most to help our family stay together.

Why I am a Mormon

In the Bible, God called prophets to lead his children and gave them his authority. I believe that God has called prophets today and given them his authority, and it is found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In 1830 a book was published called the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon is a witness that God has called a prophet to lead his people again, and that Jesus Christ is the Redeemer of the world. In the past people have received answers from God through the Holy Ghost. I have read the Book of Mormon and I know by the power of the Holy Ghost that it comes from God. The Bible and the Book of Mormon teach that in order to return to live with God we need to have faith in Jesus Christ, repent of our sins, be baptized and receive the gift of the Holy Ghost, and continue being obedient to God throughout our lives. I have felt the peace and comfort that comes from being forgiven of my sins through repentance and baptism. These spiritual moments also help me know that this is God's church.

How I live my faith

In James 2:17 it says "faith, if it hath not works, is dead". I try to live my faith by being obedient to the commandments God has given through ancient and modern prophets. I try to live commandments from ancient prophets, like the 10 Commandments from the Old Testament, and commandments from modern prophets, like prayer, scripture study, and laws of tithing, morality, and health. When I'm not obedient, I try to live my faith by repenting of my sins and asking God for forgiveness. I also participate in sacred ordinances performed by men who hold God's authority, like baptism. I worship God on the Sabbath day by attending church. I also worship God in buildings called temples. In the temple I make promises with God to obey His commandments, and He makes promises to bless me for my obedience. I also perform sacred ordinances, like baptism, for my deceased ancestors in the temple. This provides them with an opportunity they may not have had while they were alive.
