Hi I'm Alan

I am from Tennessee. I want to become a JAG Officer for the Marine Corps. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 23 years old, and I am trying to finish my undergraduate work. In my mind, I am a hopeless romantic who loves poetry, but in reality I am just a normal college kid trying to finish. I love reading, and oddly enough I am a big fan of the poetry of John Donne. My major is political science with a minor in English, and I am planning on going to law school. My current career goal is to become a United States Marine JAG Corps Officer. I am engaged to the most beautiful girl in the world and am excited to take the next step of my life.

Why I am a Mormon

Throughout high school, my siblings and I were the only Mormons at the school and we were constantly asked questions about why did not drink or say certain words. People saw that we were different. It was hard for me at first to talk openly about my beliefs with my classmates, but as I grew to know more about the LDS faith, I began to share my beliefs with them about my way life. I felt good sharing what was so personal to me. Sometimes people were belligerent toward my beliefs, but I learned to accept who I was and the role my moral standards played in my life. After high school and my first year of college, I was able to serve a mission for the Church in West Africa for two years. At first, my mission was difficult because of homesickness and actual sickness. Over time, as I adjusted more to my environment, I fell in love with the people in Sierra Leone. Their dark skin and brilliant smile warmed my heart. They loved God and wanted to know more about Him. Being able to share my testimony with them was a great blessing to my soul because it helped me understand really why I was a member of the LDS Church. I love the gospel of Jesus Christ. I know He is my Savior who willingly sacrificed His life our behalf in order to fulfill the will of Heavenly Father and to make it possible for us to overcome both physical and spiritual death. I know that the church that Christ established on earth during his ministry has been restored on the earth today. I know that Joseph Smith was called of God to be a prophet. I know that the Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ that teaches us more about Him. I know that we have a living prophet on the earth today, even President Thomas S. Monson. I know all of these things because I searched them our through study and prayer and received answers by the power of the Holy Ghost.

How I live my faith

Currently, I am in charge of watching over the brothers in my ward. This takes a lot of time because I try to visit them as often as I can one-on-one to talk with them about their goals and what their lives are like. This responsibility has really helped me learn how to care more for my fellow men. Sometimes, I get to teach them about the gospel during church on Sundays. I love teaching them and feeling so good inside when they actually end up teaching me.
