Hi I'm Karyn
I am a friend. I am a missionary. I am a Mormon.
About Me
My name is Karyn and I am a Mormon. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and my Junior year of high school I moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I truly believe moving was the best thing that has ever happened to me; I met so many people who have allowed me to become the person I am today. I am a firm believer that certain individuals are put into our lives to make us stronger, better. As for hobbies, I absolutely love swimming, biking, and running! I just finished my freshman year at Brigham Young University, and I have yet to decide what I will major in. I am most excited for June 26, 2013, as I will be leaving to dedicate 18 months of my life to help others receive Jesus Christ's restored gospel on the earth today. I will be teaching people in Lisbon, Portugal. I seriously cannot wait!!
Why I am a Mormon
I am a Mormon because I know that by living Jesus Christ's gospel, true happiness is achievable. Isn't that what everyone is searching for? Happiness? Though I grew up in the church, there was a point in my life where I had to find out for myself if what I was living was really true. I was not happy just taking my parents word for it. I had to KNOW. I followed the example of our past prophet, Joseph Smith, and as instructed in James 1:5, "if any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask of God...." I was definitely lacking true knowledge, and so I asked. I read the entire Book of Mormon and wanted to know. For me, the answer did not come at one specific time. I found so much peace and happiness as I continued to study and exercise faith. I found TRUE happiness. I tried my best to live the teachings of the Book of Mormon. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true scripture. I would encourage anyone who wants to find peace and happiness in this life to read the Book of Mormon. Find out for yourself. I did, and that is why I am a Mormon.
How I live my faith
I live my faith simply by trying to be the best example I can be. No one is perfect, and many times I mess up. Yet, each morning, I pray to be a source of light to those who may need it. I often find myself turning to New Testament scripture, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is heaven" (Matthew 5:16). If I am an example of Christ, and leading those around me to to glorify Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I find a greater purpose in life. I am living my faith by being an example of Him.
