Hi I'm Karyn

I am a friend. I am a missionary. I am a Mormon.

About Me

My name is Karyn and I am a Mormon. I was born and raised in Portland, Oregon, and my Junior year of high school I moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I truly believe moving was the best thing that has ever happened to me; I met so many people who have allowed me to become the person I am today. I am a firm believer that certain individuals are put into our lives to make us stronger, better. As for hobbies, I absolutely love swimming, biking, and running! I just finished my freshman year at Brigham Young University, and I have yet to decide what I will major in. I am most excited for June 26, 2013, as I will be leaving to dedicate 18 months of my life to help others receive Jesus Christ's restored gospel on the earth today. I will be teaching people in Lisbon, Portugal. I seriously cannot wait!!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that by living Jesus Christ's gospel, true happiness is achievable. Isn't that what everyone is searching for? Happiness? Though I grew up in the church, there was a point in my life where I had to find out for myself if what I was living was really true. I was not happy just taking my parents word for it. I had to KNOW. I followed the example of our past prophet, Joseph Smith, and as instructed in James 1:5, "if any of ye lack wisdom, let him ask of God...." I was definitely lacking true knowledge, and so I asked. I read the entire Book of Mormon and wanted to know. For me, the answer did not come at one specific time. I found so much peace and happiness as I continued to study and exercise faith. I found TRUE happiness. I tried my best to live the teachings of the Book of Mormon. I know without a doubt that the Book of Mormon is true scripture. I would encourage anyone who wants to find peace and happiness in this life to read the Book of Mormon. Find out for yourself. I did, and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I live my faith simply by trying to be the best example I can be. No one is perfect, and many times I mess up. Yet, each morning, I pray to be a source of light to those who may need it. I often find myself turning to New Testament scripture, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is heaven" (Matthew 5:16). If I am an example of Christ, and leading those around me to to glorify Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, I find a greater purpose in life. I am living my faith by being an example of Him.

What do Mormons believe about the Bible? Do they regard it as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Karyn
Mormons do believe the Bible to be the word of God, as far as it is translated correctly. These scriptural writings have come through prophets and apostles, and we cherish and read the Bible often. Just like the Bible, the Book of Mormon is a testament of Jesus Christ, and includes writings of the ancient americas. Through the scriptures, we can come to know the character of Jesus Christ, His teachings, and how it applies to us today. Many of the prophets in the Book of Mormon testified of our generation - of people during the "last days" who would read their words. The Book of Mormon with the Bible gives my life so much direction - together they BOTH testify of a resurrected Jesus Christ and for the knowledge that this life is not the end. Show more Show less
