Hi I'm Jana

I grew up in California. I'm a college student that likes to snowboard and eat food. I'm a mormon.

About Me

I am a sister and a daughter. I love my family and love to hang out with them. I love to be outside whether I am playing at the beach or playing in the snow. I have an interest in cooking that comes from my desire to feed whoever walks in my door. I am also a college student studying Math Education.

Why I am a Mormon

I struggled with my faith intensely when I was younger. I struggled to feel God in my life and as such I did not attend church for most of my youth. I was almost 17 when my older brother, who was about to leave for two years, asked me to meet with the missionaries at least once after I had moved away from home. I agreed out of love for my brother but did not think about it until the next year. I had moved out recently and was determined to find what religion was true without any familial influence. I had started going to a variety of churches and reading the bible more intently. And then one day as I was driving home, I saw two missionaries on the corner; the promise to my brother nagged at me. I turned around and set up an appointment for the next day. I was sure however, that it would not go anywhere and I would simply be fulfilling a promise. Yet when I met with the missionaries, I realized that one of them had had the same group of friends as me. We spent an hour reminiscing and I agreed to meet again. This time however, I was sure would be the last. But somehow I kept meeting with them. As I was taught from them, questions that I had long held began to be answered. I began to feel the Lord's presence in my life as I read the Book of Mormon. As I strived to understand what the Lord wanted from me, I began to feel a peace that I had never known. Four years later, my testimony of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ has only grown. I have had my ups and downs but I have begun to see how much the Lord's hand was always present in my life to help shape me into the person I ought to be. I have come to know and have the faith that the LDS church is true. Joseph Smith was a prophet chosen by God to restore his church to the way that it was when Jesus was alive. I have come to know President Thomas Monson as a prophet of God. Most importantly though, I have come to know that Christ lives, that he loves and knows me personally and that through him, I can find peace.

How I live my faith

I work with others on a "Service Committee". Together we organize service projects that help those outside of our ward and church. Before this, I have worked on committees that focus on the needs of those that might be hurting inside our ward and on committees that were meant to foster a sense of community for those inside our church.
