Hi I'm Katie

I was born in Alaska. I love to play harp. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am 22 years old and I am halfway through nursing school, but am currently serving as a missionary in the New York Utica Mission. My family lives in Idaho and that is where I have lived most of my life so getting the opportunity to come to New York state right now is a great experience! I was actually born in Anchorage, Alaska which might be why I love rainy, cloudy days. My family loves the outdoors and my love of being outside has been growing with every white water rafting and camping trip. My harp that I have spent about 10 years of my life with is back in Idaho and I feel like I left part of myself there with it. Music is one of my favorite things on earth and I think it can bring so much happiness to this sometimes crazy world. My life has been very sheltered and blessed by having a loving family, good books to read, the opportunity to get an education, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to bring light and happiness. I don't know a lot about a lot of things but I do know that we all have a Heavenly Father who loves us, that the Savior's atonement can heal all kinds of heartache, that reading to a little brother is super fun, that making cookies can make you happy, that being outside is the best, and that playing harp reminds me of heaven.

Why I am a Mormon

There are many reasons why I am a Mormon. My parents are also Mormon and they taught me from the time that I was young about Heavenly Father and Christ and they set an example for me by attending church and praying and studying scriptures. They also emphasized the importance of me gaining a testimony that the church is true for myself because no one else will be able to prove its truth to me. I love being Mormon because knowing about Heavenly Father's plan for us gives my life meaning, purpose, and direction. I know that the gospel helps me in my everyday life and there is no better way to be happy than by following the teachings of Christ that are contained in His true church.

How I live my faith

At this point in my life, I am trying to live my faith by serving as a missionary for the church. Missionaries spend almost all their time inviting everyone they meet to learn more about Christ and His gospel and to change their lives and hearts to become like Him. Being a missionary is an amazing experience that takes a lot of heart and a lot of help from Heavenly Father. I was very nervous on the day that I left home to go serve as a missionary, but I felt comfort and peace that I knew came from my Heavenly Father. I know that Heavenly Father listens to us and that he really is our Father and He loves us. I know that our Savior, Jesus Christ, is the only person that understands all that we go through and that he can heal us of emotional and spiritual pain as we turn to Him. Being able to testify of these truths every day as a missionary is a great blessing. Everyday life before a mission was usually very busy with homework, nursing clinical, and important tasks that everyone has to do in life but that take up a lot of time. It is pretty tricky to try to focus on what's really important while living a normal, busy life, but I try to trust in the scriptures' promise that "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" (Philippians 4:13).
