Hi I'm Vaughn

I'm a Mormon. I live in Utah and am married and h.ave five wonderful children and 18 grandchildren.

About Me

I grew up in a small Utah town - Salina. My family moved to Salt Lake City when I was 15. It was then when I met my future wife Evelyn. I attended the University of Utah and graduated with a BS degree in electrical engineering. My wife and I were married while we were at the University. We had one son while at the University. Following graduation I obtained employment in San Jose, CA, where I worked for five years. We had two more sons while living in San Jose. I attended the University of Santa Clara and received a MS degree in electrical engineering. I then obtained employment back in Salt Lake City, so we moved back to Utah and bought a home in Bountiful. In the following years in Bountiful we had one more son and finally a daughter, for a total of four sons and one daughter. All of our children are happily married and we have 18 grandchildren. I worked as an electrical engineer for 40 years. I had a very successful career and did very interesting work as a designer and project lead on state-of-art military communications systems. I received approximately 25 patents in this field. I made many friends with my work associates. I retired in 2012 and my wife and I love to travel and spend time with our family. We are called as missionaries and depart in July 2013 to the Alpine German-speaking mission where we will work with the young adults.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I was raised in the church (my parents were members), I have developed my own faith over the years by reading the scriptures and other literature provided by the church and through prayer. Perhaps most important is my testimony that the Book of Mormon is true. I have a personal testimony that Joseph Smith translated this book from ancient records buried by an ancient prophet of God who lived in the Americas. This book is clear to read and understand and compliments the scriptures contained in the Bible.

How I live my faith

I am active in my ward and attend church with my family regularly. When I was 19 years old I served as a missionary in the southern part of Germany, near the area where my wife and I will be returning to serve the Lord as senior missionaries. I have served in many church callings over the years including working with the youth as Sunday School teacher, as a counselor to the Bishop, as clerk, and as scoutmaster working with both young and older scouts. I try to be a good example of my faith to others by striving to live the gospel principles on a daily basis. I study the scriptures regularly (I could do better) and have a strong testimony of the gospel. I urge those investigating the church to read the Book of Mormon and pray to find out that the Book of Mormon is true. I have learned that one can get closer to God when reading the scriptures and doing service to our fellow men. God has commanded us to be missionaries so others can know of the truth and receive mandatory church ordinances, including baptism by immersion by one who has authority from God to perform baptism. I also received the Gift of the Holy Ghost following my baptism. The Holy Ghost is my constant companion and helps me on a daily basis know right from wrong. I am constantly guided to make correct choices when listening to the promptings of the Holy Ghost. I am fortunate to be married to a wonderful wife and eternal companion. We love each other dearly and enjoy doing things together. We are pleased to have been called as senior missionaries working with the young adults in Germany/Austria. I know that this call to serve is a calling from our Heavenly Father and look forward to this experience with my wife as my companion.
