Hi I'm Mariah

I am a California girl. I'm adopted. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My birth mother was very young when she got pregnant, but she knew that I deserved to have a life. I love and respect her so much for that decision, and I can't comprehend how hard that must have been. She knew that I had the right to a good life, and so did she, so she decided to put me up for adoption. She chose my family herself through prayer and knew that I needed to be with them. Because of her brave choice, I had the opportunity to be raised in the LDS church and experience a wonderful life. I grew up in the beautiful, tiny beach town of Arroyo Grande. I learned to read when I was four years old and can't exist without a book in my hand now. I play the cello, but I'm not very talented. I just play for fun. I love all kinds of music and believe that music is the one thing that all people can connect to, no matter where they're from. I'm into all things nerdy- Harry Potter, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings- you name it, but Disney is my number one passion. I am a student at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah studying Business and French with hopes of working for the Disney Corporation. Currently I am deferring my education to serve an eighteen month mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Finland.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised by faithful, LDS parents, so some might say I don't really have a true conversion story. I would like to beg to differ. One can only rely on their parents testimonies for so long. Eventually, truth must be discovered for yourself. I went through a period of time in high school where I doubted everything. Deep down I knew God existed, but I fought it. I was angry at the world and almost spun out of control. At one point I was so low that I thought I would never be happy again, and all I could think to do was to get down on my knees and cry out for help. And it came. Love and peace washed over me, and I knew then that the gospel was true and it was time for me to start really living it. Since then, all I have wanted to do is to go about spreading that peace to those around me. The Lord let me sink into the deepest valley so that He could lift me out of it. I have felt the light of Christ in my life. That is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As I said earlier, I have decided to serve a full-time mission, which is eighteen months for girls. I have been called to serve in the Finland, Helsinki mission. I had always planned on serving a mission, which meant waiting until I was 21 until the recent age change. Now, at nineteen years old, I have the incredible opportunity to serve Christ and spread some of the hope and joy that His gospel brings.
