Hi I'm Shaylee Lyon

I grew up in Utah. I just graduated from BYU-Idaho with my generals and I will be serving a mission. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the church and have tried to choose to right. I found really good friends that guided me through school. I had a desire to do good because that is what made me happiest and felt at peace. I started dancing when I was three and I enjoyed doing that all the way until my Junior year of high school. Dancing was my passion because it was my way to express feelings through music and movement. Another way for me to express was piano. Piano was my stress reliever and I could just feel the spirit in music. After graduating from high school and I chose to attend BYU-Idaho because I wanted the church to be a bigger influence on my life, and I can see after attending the school for 2 years that it truly blessed my life. I met new people and experienced living on my own. I had some incredible roommates that really helped me want to be a better person. Recently there was a missionary age change within the church and I waited for awhile after the excitement and prayed to see if a mission was right for me and it was. I turned in my mission papers March 3 after working on them since December 29. I received my call on March 16, 2013. I have been called to serve in the Bolivia Santa Cruz mission. I will report to the Peru MTC on July 17. It is surreal to me but I am so excited to teach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people of Bolivia who have been waiting and are being prepared to receive the message the church has for them.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints, I have a been a mormon since I was a born. I was baptized at age 8. My family has always been involved and active in the church. I have had older siblings choose to not do the church thing anymore and I have watched their lives fall apart and I could see that they weren't happy. The reason why I am at age 20 still a mormon because I have a testimony of this church and know that it is the only true church that will bring us true joy and happiness. It is also our way back to our Heavenly Father by following His Son's example. I want to have a family of my own one day after I serve a mission for the church. Being a mormon means sacrificing to get blessings. When I choose to good I feel at peace and that's how I want to feel that I am going the right way in my life. There is one thing in my life that is sure and that is the church, it will never change and neither will God.

How I live my faith

I attend church every Sunday. I do not have a calling currently in my family ward but up at school I was able to serve as a secretary of the Relief Society, which is a group of sisters to help one another. I pray every night to my Heavenly Father and give him thanks for all the things I have been give in that day. I try to read my scriptures, it is difficult to make it a daily part of my day but I know that every time I do read it blesses my life and day. I have read the Book of Mormon one time through and I know it is true. There is no doubt in my mind that it isn't true, even though I haven't read it a lot the words that I have read in church and classes touch my heart and reveal to me that it is the word of God. I try to live my life like Jesus Christ would, and be an example to others. I wear a CTR ring (Choose the Right), it is a reminder for me of the covenants I have made with God and it is also a way for others to see who I am and who I want to follow.
