Hi I'm Charlene Persence

I'm a Sister, a Daughter, a Friend. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a daughter, a sister a great friend and i love this gospel. I joined the church 22 years ago and am the only member in my family. I love hiking, sewing, Spanish dancing, listening to music and being around awesome people. My goal in life is to open my own Bridal Boutique and help women realize with that recourse how beautiful they are inside and out. I love helping people and hope that one day i can be a bright light for others like the ones from church that have shone for me.

Why I am a Mormon

At the time i joined the church in South Africa everyday life was still rife with apartheid. I remember it so vividly not being allowed to go in the same bathrooms as white people, standing in a different line at the grocery store because they had one for whites and one for "coloreds". The day i went to church for the first time with my friend was the most amazing day, because for the first time i got accepted and embraced for who i was not the color of my skin. I walked into the church building and everybody smiled and hugged each other and i felt like i was finally home. As a nine year old all the teachings went over my head, but that feeling of family was what kept me going back. I told my sister about the church, she came with me and we had the grandest time there. I was baptized with the permission of my grandmother who was raising us, at age ten, and this day couldn't come any sooner. I was taught the teachings of the gospel and it was taught to me in such a way that even my ten year old mind could understand it. I have not had the easiest life on this earth so far, but i have a testimony of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. That He died for us and i believe that one day i will be reunited with my parents and my grandparents one day. The church teaches us all these things and i believe it to be true. If it was not for the gospel i am not sure where i would be right now, however judging from my surroundings when i grew up it would not be here. The church has been a great foundation for me and the people the strength i needed when i needed. I love being a Mormon.

How I live my faith

As you know i mentioned that i love music, well i currently serve as a chorister in my ward which means i direct the music for the congregation. I love my calling because i get to do my favorite thing every week which is listen to music and on top of that, it happens to be good wholesome music that draws me closer to our Heavenly Father lol whats not to love right? I love doing fun activities with my friends like Family Home Evening and taking road trips to places like the temple. Our church do a lot of service projects in the community that i love to be a part of because seeing what a small difference i can make really makes me feel like i am important too.
