Hi I'm Candice

I'm an ESL teacher and TESOL master's student. I play the piano, the flute, and basketball. I love my family.

About Me

It took me a while to figure out that I wanted to teach, but when I did, I decided to go back to school and get a masters degree. I'm working four part-time jobs, but I love my work. I can't wait to be a full-time teacher and hopefully inspire my students the way that my teachers inspired me. Also, I love music. It fills parts of my soul that sometimes I forget I have. I love coming home and playing the piano because it is relaxing to me. I love playing sports with friends just for fun - basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer, ultimate Frisbee, you name it. I want a library as big as Belle's in Beauty and the Beast. I also like to learn how to count in different languages. My radio station in my car is usually on the classical station.

Why I am a Mormon

I wanted to know if the Book of Mormon was true, so I took the challenge in Moroni 10: 4-5 - to read the Book of Mormon and then pray and ask Heavenly Father to know if it is true. The Spirit testified of its truth to me in a personal and peaceful way. It has been the same pattern for additional questions about principles of the gospel: come up with a question, study the scriptures, ponder it, then ask the source of all knowledge and truth. I believe that God continues to communicate with His children. As long as I am following His plan of salvation, I find that I am my happiest version of myself and that's when I find I have true peace. Knowing my identity as a daughter of God has brought me stability amid the turmoil in my life. My parents were involved in a divorce for me as a young child that caused me to ask many questions at a young age. At the same time, while we struggled through hardships, we were the recipients of many miracles. I know that God knows us individually, by name, what we need, and is usually just waiting for us to ask. I know He loves us as a parent loves a child, and He has never forsaken me. I am grateful for the gift of the Holy Spirit because through his comforting presence I have come to know God's love for me. Christ suffered so that he could succor his brothers and sisters, perfectly, and that includes me.

How I live my faith

While I worship on Sunday, for me, living the principles of the gospel is not just a once a week thing - it's an everyday commitment. Though there are a few sacrifices, there are a lot of blessings and opportunities that come that make the sacrifices seem small. One of the things I enjoy about the church are the opportunities to serve and learn about different church callings. Since I have been a member, I have enjoyed working with kids, youth, and my peers, the young single adults (YSA). I served as a chorister in the children's choir and had a fun time teaching songs of praise as well as singing, humming, whistling, and going operatic while teaching fun songs. I had the opportunity to teach Bible stories to young children as well as youth, and I benefit from their energy and enthusiasm. I also was able to coordinate and participate in fun activities with the YSA and have enjoyed the friendships and support found in the program. I also sing in the church choir - I'm not the best singer in the world, but the people I sit next to keep me on key, and we have fun singing praises.
