Hi I'm Sam B

Born in Lebanon, raised in Canada, lived in NY and baptized in VA, April 2008. I'm a software engineer and Mormon.

About Me

I came from a Catholic background, although my family wasn't very active. In my mid 20's, I started questioning my faith and wanted to find somewhere I belonged. I started church hopping to get a taste of what was out there, but never really found a good place. I then decided to consider myself non-denominational and attended a bible church sporadically. In my mid 30's, I became friends with a co-worker who was Mormon and he invited me to his home to meet his family on several Monday nights, which is Family Home Evening. I started learning more about the LDS church and culture. While at a fireside, I met sister missionaries and started reading The Book of Mormon, attending church every Sunday and praying for answers. I attended the Priesthood Session during General Conference and felt the spirit while watching all the great humanitarian efforts of the church worldwide. I then felt the spirit strongly after watching a video of The Restoration and found that I related to Joseph Smith's story; he too was trying to find the true church. I took my time before getting baptized, but I knew that this church was different and I felt right at home here. I was baptized, received the gift of the Holy Ghost, got a calling, paid a full tithe, served others, and made many new friends. There is much to learn, but one should not be discouraged, since learning the gospel is a lifelong process. The most important thing is to have faith.

Why I am a Mormon

It is the only church that I ever felt that I belonged in the moment that I entered its door. I enjoy the role it plays in supporting its members and helping them return to be with Heavenly Father. I like the emphasis on Jesus Christ as our Savior, the importance of the family unit and marriage, the high standards and morals we are asked to hold to, and the sincere friendliness and charity of its members. When you feel the Spirit come upon you and you hear the promptings of the Holy Ghost and enter the temple, you too will understand how true this church is.

How I live my faith

My first calling was Elder Quorum Secretary and I enjoyed working with the EQ Presidency and other brethren. I helped many families move into and out of their homes. I attended activities and church basketball games. I then served as a leader with the Boy Scouts at church and helped the young men prepare themselves for their lives ahead. I am now in a mid-singles ward and attend every activity when possible. I also try to make many friends and get to know others. I hometeach seven single households and love doing so. I offer some counsel and help them in any way they need. I live my faith by obeying the commandments, the Word of Wisdom, the law of chastity, serving others, and doing the best that I can while maintaining faith. I attend church every Sunday and pay a full tithe.
