Hi I'm Ashley Charriere

I grew up in Utah. I'm on a mission in Long Beach California. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I've been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all my life. I decided to go on a mission when the age was changed and I could go at 19. I decided to go because I love my father in heaven and when I prayed to him I felt that that is what he wanted me to do. I love to read, I use to read about fantasy and adventure, but now as a missionary I read scriptures and magazines from the church. I love animals and hope to find a job related to them after my mission. I'm on a mission to serve God and bring the gospel to all of his children. I know this gospel can help anyone in their life so I want to share it with the world.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church and my testimony of it has grown little bits at a time. I started out believing it because my parents told me it was true and I knew they would not lie to me. As I got older I started to realize it was true for myself. The main thing that helped me in strenthening my faith was prayer. I would pray for something and I would always get an answer. For example: I have lost many things over the years as I'm sure many have, and when I would pray to find it I would find it. Also I've had trouble with health and have been in lots of pain and I would pray for relief. Sometimes the pain would go away and sometimes I would just feel comforted through my pain. In both cases I could feel Gods love for me. Another reason I know the church is true is because I can feel the spirit. I feel the warm calm and the indescribable joy when I'm praying, reading my scriptures, and sharing the gospel. I feel that the church is true and I know in my heart that it is right. I know that God loves me and that he wants me to be happy. So why wouldn't I follow him?

How I live my faith

I currently live my faith by serving God as a missionary. As a missionary I separate myself from worldly entertainment such as movies and music that is not related to the gospel. I dedicate my life to God for 18 months. I travel to a place where I have been called to serve which is the Long Beach Mission and I share the gospel with all the people I come into contact with. I do service for the members and nonmembers in the areas I am called to. I go to church every Sunday and follow all Gods commandments as exactly as I can as well as following rules for missionaries which are more strict, because we are representatives of Christ. I am paired with a companion who I stay with at all times. We share the gospel together and invite the people we meet to come unto Christ.

Why is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints called Mormons or Mormonism?

Ashley Charriere
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints isn't actually called Mormons or Mormonism. It is called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mormon is a nickname given to our church because we believe in the Book of Mormon as well as the Bible. The Book of Mormon is another testiment of Christ. It is about the people of the americas and their encounters with Christ. It is called the Book of Mormon because Mormon is the prophet from ancient america who summarized all the religious records of his people and put then into one book. Show more Show less

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Ashley Charriere
Yes we do. We believe the Bible to be the word of God so far as it is translated correctly. We read the King James version of the Bible. The Book of Mormon supports the Bible and even quotes it at times. Nephi (a prophet of the Book of Mormon) takes full chapters from Isaiah and includes them in his section of the Book of Mormon. Nephi says that he delights in the words of Isaiah. Show more Show less
