Hi I'm Kandice

I'm a missionary in San Diego. I love to serve. I love to run and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Before my mission I was a run-oholic. It was a way I could let go of stress and really feel free. I ran 13.1 miles a couple of times last year! It's my goal after my mission to train for a marathon, it's something that I look at others that have done it and it BLOWS MY MIND! However, before coming out on my mission, thinking of spending 18 months of devoting 24/7 to the Lord blew my mind as well. But, I'm here doing it! Pushing forward and I know that the Lord has been the reason I've been able to keep on going, because I don't believe it could be done by any other way. Through out my last years of High School and in College I struggled with bad depression and anxiety. Unfortunately it's something that runs in my family. So when I was able to turn to running I felt like that was a way I could get those extra endorphins pumping! Yet, I knew I just wasn't quite at that same level of happiness I was before. Being out on my mission I've recognized what it was I was missing. Before, when I was really happy I was really involved in the church, going to the temple once a week, going to mutual, surrounded by friends that have the same standards. Being here I have those similar things once again, I can say I am finding true happiness in serving and knowing my Savior, Jesus Christ. All I want to do is help others have this feeling! It's more freeing than running. It gives you an even better high...a spiritual high :)

Why I am a Mormon

I guess you could say I was "born into the church". However, everyone has to have their own conversion. I have prayed and have come to know that it is the Church of Jesus Christ restored once again to the Earth. That we do have latter-day prophets and apostles. The Book of Mormon is Another Testament of Jesus Christ and that He did come to the Americas and they did feel the prints in His hands. The sacrifice He made, that we know as the Atonement is real and is accessible to each and every one of us. And that families can be together forever, all because Heavenly Father wants us to be happy and His purpose is to "bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man".

How I live my faith

All of you that are thinking about going on a mission I would advise you to go! It is the hardest, yet most rewarding thing I have had the opportunity to do. I get to live my faith by sharing it with others. Not only that, but it has helped me develop a habit of studying the scriptures and always praying to my Heavenly Father. However, I've learned to live my faith through my family. Through faithful parents that encouraged us to go to church each Sunday, and after church always asking us what we learned and sharing our testimonies with each other. We also get the opportunity to fast once a month. This means we go without food or water for two meals, then donate fast offerings, which is money that goes to those in need. We also tithe ten percent of our income to the church to help with the building of temples and chapels. Not a week goes by when we don't have some church-related activity. When I was in Young Women, ages 12-18 we would meet every Wednesday and do activities that would strengthen our faith, learn some skills, help one another and give service. Honestly, it is by those "small and simple things" that help me keep my faith, including scripture study, prayer and service including going to church to help and support one another.

Do you really believe there is a prophet like Moses alive today?

God blesses us in all sorts of ways, one of which is that we have a prophet that leads and guides His church. Everything that we know to be true can come back to knowing that there is a prophet. When we look at stories in the scriptures about people in the past and their conversions they all refer to hearing the testimonies of the prophets. Since God is the same yesterday, today and forever He has blessed us with a prophet today that we can look to. And as we look to him, he points us to look to God. When you pray to know if there is a prophet today, I can promise you that the Holy Ghost with confirm in your heart that there is and what he says is the Lords words and they are true. I know this because I have experienced it for myself. Show more Show less
