Hi I'm Elise

I'm a college student. I love cooking, playing basketball and clarinet, and being with friends. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a current college student and loving it. I am the third child in a family of six. My family has always been a recreational family. Growing up, our vacations would almost always consist of visiting national parks, hiking, fishing, biking, and camping. My parents got us kids involved in a variety of sports and music lessons in our youth. During high school, I enjoyed playing basketball on the school team, playing clarinet in the marching band, concert band, and orchestra, and saxophone in the jazz band. I continued developing these talents in college in band and intramural sports. After having a meal plan for the past year, I have come to appreciate homemade food and learning how to cook it myself. I love being with my family and friends and enjoying simple activities like backyard barbecues and playing board games.

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because of the peace and happiness I feel as I live the gospel I learn through this church. I was born into this religion, and as a child I went to church because that is what my parents taught me to do, but as I've grown older and moved away from home, I have had to decide for myself if I truly believe what is taught in the Mormon church and if I will continue to be Mormon. I have found out for myself that this is Jesus Christ's true church through studying the Book of Mormon and Bible and by praying. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet and that he restored Christ's full gospel to the earth. I know that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that anyone who diligently and genuinely seeks after Him can come to know Him. Everything good in my life has directly or indirectly stemmed from being obedient to His commandments. I am grateful that I am a Mormon and for the peace that I feel as I continue in this faith.

How I live my faith

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I have had different responsibilities that have helped me to serve the community. I have been in charge of visiting the women in my church group to make sure they are receiving help with the day to day struggles they face. When they were having no major issues in life, we would simply visit and talk about our faith. In high school, I participated in youth activities such as cleaning public areas in the community, planning church youth dances, and serving the elderly people in our area. Much of the LDS religion is focused on family so each week my family has a night centered around being together. Each Monday we eat dinner together, have a discussion about some principal of our religion, play a game, and eat dessert. It has truly united our family over the years and helped me to better live my faith.
