Hi I'm Nathaniel

I'm a software engineer and lifelong geek. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Writing software and playing with technology isn't just what I do, it's who I am! I love technology, and I really get excited about ways in which it can help people's lives. I also love playing games of all kinds - board games, card games, video games, pretty much anything. I thoroughly enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, and spending time with friends and family. I'm an avid reader - I like to lose myself in a good story. I'm also newly married and it's been a wonderful experience embarking on this adventure with my amazing wife. I'm a recent college grad, getting used to life in the real world.

Why I am a Mormon

Both my parents were members of the church, and so I was born into it. However, there came a time for me where I needed to learn for myself whether all the things I had been taught over the years were actually true. Specifically, whether the Book of Mormon was true, and if Joseph Smith was indeed a prophet of God. After much study and prayer, I felt the Holy Spirit testify to me of the truth of these things. Since that time, I've been blessed to witness and participate in miracles, and I've experienced firsthand the blessings of listening to a modern prophet's counsel. I've also grown closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ, and I know that He is the Son of God. I know that this is His restored church on the earth today

How I live my faith

My wife and I have been assigned to be teachers for the nursery class - children between the ages of 18 months and 24 months. I have never really had the chance to interact with kids of this age group before, so I was a bit skeptical about my abilities to fulfill this role. But it has been quite the experience - they've really grown on me. Now, I think that being in the nursery is a great assignment, and I find myself looking forward to playing with the kids each week. We try to teach them short lessons about how much God loves them, how to be nice to their friends, and how they can think about Jesus while they are in church. I don't know how much they are really getting out of it, but I'm sure they can feel the love of everyone in church. Along with several other 20-something year old young men, I was also able to help plan the Christmas Party for our local ward, and I must say, we did a pretty fine job getting everything decorated and pretty for the celebration. It was challenging to organize everything necessary for a talent show, dinner, and a surprise visit from Santa, but I learned a lot in the process.
