Hi I'm Riley Billings

I love baseball, the South, and the outdoors. I am serving a mission in Alabama and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

My passion is to play baseball, and in the beautiful state of Colorado, which I call home, I love to hike and do anything in the outdoors. Lately I have been moving around from college at Weber State University in Utah to my mission in Birmingham Alabama. I teach the gospel of Jesus Christ in English, Spanish, and Southern, and I try to be more like the man who made all things possible. If I could have one hero, it would be my older brother because of how much he has taught me by paving the way in front of me. I am the second oldest of four with one sister and three brothers.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that God is real. He is alive and he has provided a way for us to be eternally happy. Have you ever looked at the stars? That's my answer to the mystery of the reality and the existence of God. I love God. If you have ever read the poem, "Invictus," by William Ernest Henley you have learned one of the purposes of life and felt the motivation that comes from within. Life is about motivating and conquering yourself and showing the Lord that you are willing to submit to His will. I am the master of my fate, I am the captain of my soul. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is the reason that I have been able to make my attempt at doing this in order to become more like Christ. I am a Mormon because I desire to show God my gratitude for giving me everything that I have. Being a Mormon is just too much fun anyway. If you don't believe me you'll have to try it for yourself because I'm no liar.

How I live my faith

By sharing the truths that I love and hold dear I can see my own faith growing. If you put a candle in the cupboard it defeats its own purpose and remains the same with no opportunity for lighting other wicks. By putting it on a candlestick and sharing that with others you can physically see the effects of charity being put into action. One way to light the wicks of other people is to simply smile and laugh. It's more contagious than yawning... most of the time. My conclusion is that I look for opportunities to grow other people's faith because Christ's priority was us, and not himself and we are to desire to be like Him who made it all possible. By remaining close to Christ I have been able to find the sunshine and the happiness that life brings through the joy of other people.

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Riley Billings
When God made Eve, he formed her out of the rib of Adam. The rib is a symbol that Eve walked at the side of Adam, not below or above, and underneath his arm so that he could protect her. We as men and women are equal. If women held the Priesthood, us men would have no chance in life because women have the role of bearing children, which is far more influential than any other aspect of life. My mother has influenced my life more than any other person so this is how women can lead. They create, nurture, and inspire the leaders. Show more Show less
