Hi I'm Chrissy Davenport

I grew up in Southgate, Michigan and now live in Tigard,Oregon. I have four beautiful children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married to my best friend and a mother to four beautiful children, two girls and two boys. After 11 years, 3 states, 4 different colleges and three kids I finally graduated with my Bachelors degree. I grew up a non-member in Michigan. I joined the church when I was 19 years old and moved to Utah. I spent a short time in Utah before moving back to Michigan for a couple years. Then I moved to Utah...again to attend school...again. While in school I met my husband and we eventually moved to Oregon where he is from. I have always been an active person, growing up I played basketball, softball, soccer, track (hurdles) and was heavily involved in music. I spent a year with a competitive musical group and we took 8th place at world championships. A few years ago I started running and completed my first marathon in 2010, when my second child was almost 1 year old. I have also run Hood to Coast and am currently trying to find more ways to stay active while raising 4 children.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a part member house, my Mom is a Mormon, my Dad was not. Growing up I occasionally went to church with my Mom, but did not really have any desire for religion. As I grew older religion grew further from my mind. I believed in God, but I did not have any deeper understanding of where I came from or why I was here. When I was 17 my dad passed away. This raised many questions in my mind. How could death be the end? What was the point of coming to earth if we were just going to die and that would be the end? These questions were in my mind, but I did not search for any answers. When I was 19 and away at school, my older sister told me she was coming home from college to be baptized. She invited me to sit in on one of the missionary discussions. It was interesting to me, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to make such a drastic change in my life. The following day at my sisters baptism I could not contain my excitement for her. I felt something so strong inside, I could not contain it. I felt different, I felt a desire to learn more. During the lunch after the baptism I walked...more like ran...to the missionaries and asked them if they would teach me more. They gladly accepted:) I was baptized a month later. I have chosen to be a member of Christ's church because I know it is true. I know without a doubt that life on this earth is not the end. I know that there is so much more to it than that. I know what life was like before joining this church, and it is not a life I want to live again. Being a member of this church has taught me where I came from, what I am doing here, and where I am going. Following Christ's example helps me strive to be a better person.

How I live my faith

I try to be active in my community by volunteering at my daughters school. I also work with the youth in our church teaching Sunday school. Teaching gives me time to plan and study the scriptures. I love working with the youth and learning along side them. With four kids it can be difficult to find time to get out and serve in the community, so I try to be aware of small ways that present themselves, like making meals for friends/families during times of need or watching someone's kids. There are always opportunities to help, I just need to make an effort to notice.
