Hi I'm Phil

I am married, in my sixties, a father and a grandfather. I am soon to retire from full time employment.

About Me

I have worked in the finance area for about 40 years. I have been married to my wife for most of that time. We have raised our children in Kent, Yorkshire and the West Midlands. Our children are all grown up now. My interests include reading especially in history, also some gardening, family history research, and D.I.Y.

Why I am a Mormon

I joined the church as a teenager, back in 1969. I was greatly impressed by the story of Joseph Smith's vision of the Father and the Son, and the spiritual witness I received of its truth. This has stayed with me since. The Book of Mormon has also been a big part of my life. Its teachings of the Saviour, Jesus Christ, have reinforced my faith on many occasions. As I have lived by the teachings of the church I have have seen many blessings in my life: especially my marriage and the children and family life that flowed from that. My children and grandchildren are a great source of joy to me.

How I live my faith

I visit and interact with members of the church, in home and church settings. I try to befriend help those who have problems in their lives. I also get involved in administration in my local church, as well as worship services. My personal religious observance (prayers and reading the scriptures) is also important to me.

Why is family so important to Mormons?

We believe that families can be forever, that families are the pattern for what life with God will be like. We often refer to God as 'Heavenly Father' which emphasizes the familial connection between God and his children. The family is where children can be taught, nurtured and protected, and where strong resilient adults can be developed. The family is also where we can do our greatest work as parents to our children, and nurture the relationship between husband and wife. Show more Show less
