Hi I'm Emma

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm a writer. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a missionary in Moscow, Russia, and a college student studying English teaching. I love long-distance, early-morning running, cooking Mexican food and pastries, writing creative nonfiction, and mob movies. I'm a sucker for Led Zeppelin and classical piano.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church, but I found that my testimony was based off of that of my parents until I entered college. I attend a Mormon university, so it was expected that I would continue attending church and live in accordance with gospel principles. I never anticipated that I would do anything differently, but it was a very powerful experience to be thrown into a largely church-focused environment and left to make my own decisions as to how I proceeded to follow my faith. I continued attending church and increased my own personal scripture study, because I recognized that personal growth would not come without a significant amount of effort. But as I did this, and as I had conversations with other students going through the same conversion process as myself, I began to truly realize the glory of God and His hand in my life. The gospel answers many of the basic questions we all innately have as human beings. The "where do we come froms" and "why are we heres" are key to the foundation of the gospel. I find comfort in knowing the answers to these questions, and in knowing that I am not alone in my journey through life.

How I live my faith

I'm serving as a missionary in Moscow, Russia for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. What this entails is living the standards of the gospel at all times and in all places. I invite other to come unto Christ through faith, repentance, baptism, and enduring to the end. When I finish my mission, I'll return to the university I was attending to continue my education. But my faith will forever be a part of me, even when all my time is not devoted to preaching the gospel. I will continue to live as God would have me live, serving others and studying His gospel.
