Hi I'm Mason

Hello. I am Mason Shaver. I am a son, a brother and a Mormon.

About Me

I am a missionary serving in the Everett, Washington mission. My desire at the moment is to become a real, honest and true person. I have found honesty and striving to find the principle purposes of life very rewarding. In the future I desire to have an education that will help me know how I can make investments that will bless my family mentally, physically and financially. I also desire to have a garden that I could eat from all the time. I love big, fruit filled breakfasts. The memories that I cherish the most are the ones at Christmas time with my family together. I want to have those experiences all the time with my family now and my possible future family. I hope to live and be around my family through out my life. My priorities are my God, my family and my ministry. I like to be where I am supposed to be. I would say I ask a good amount of questions in conversations with people and other things. I have two older brothers and a older sister who are all married. My older brother Mike is married to his wife Lisa and has a boy and a girl. And my other older brother Morgan is married to Ashlyn and they have a boy. And my sister Rachel is married to a man named Bobby. I'm the only one not married in my family. lol (if you do not count my niece and nephews). I love my family. I have two teeth that have not grown in and my front two teeth were knocked out in high school. I think people find me awkward sometimes.

Why I am a Mormon

As I strive to be honest with God, myself and everyone around me, the spirit of God witnesses to my spirit that this gospel is true. I know that this gospel and what I have to share as a missionary is an honest and true message. I have come to know that this gospel is true by understanding the Book of Mormon. I know that I desire nothing more then Eternal Life with families because the memories that I cherish the most are the ones where I am with my family. I know that the Holy Spirit has witnessed to my spirit of truth. I know that the self-mastery to resist and overcome temptations and to maintain my identity comes through obedience to the teachings of Jesus Christ. I find myself to be a truth seeker. I believe the gospel of Jesus Christ that has been restored through the prophet Joseph Smith is true beauty, joy, happiness and satisfaction. As I have lived the gospel and gone to this church, I've found that I desire good things. I desire things that will benefit my future self, family and future family. I know President Thomas S. Monson and the apostles of the church are honest people. As I study what they have said I believe I now know what to do. As I've done what they have said I believe I've become happier and healthier physically and spiritually.

How I live my faith

I have been called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. So I am a missionary. They refer to me as Elder Shaver. From what I have been told, Elder is another way of saying teacher. My purpose as a missionary is to invite others to come unto Christ through, faith in Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. I feel like my purpose is to share with others this gospel and help them learn the truthfulness of it for themselves.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Mason
From what I understand about the atonement, it is to become one with God or to be reconciled to God. A prophet named David O McKay summarized the overarching purpose of the gospel of the Savior in these terms: “The purpose of the gospel is . . . to make bad men good and good men better, and to change human nature” It was necessary because of my fallen and sinful (disobedient) state, I do not have the power or ability to become one with God. Jesus Christ, because of the power and ability that he had through obedience to God's will, had the power to overcome the effects of the fall. From what I understand, Christ's life is there in view for me as a guide so that I may become one with God and overcome my human nature. As I follow Christ, as I do what Christ would do which is obedience to God's commandments, I may receive power and strength to overcome my fallen and sinful state. I know that this is true because I have felt the power and strength that comes through using the atonement of Jesus Christ. I know as I use the atonement that I may receive strength and cleanse my self from past mistakes and addictions. This is how I know that Jesus Christ lives as well. Show more Show less

How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography?

Mason
How can we stop the spread and influence of pornography? A thought comes to mind that if I were to realize who I am and understand my purpose in life, I would not involve myself in such dishonest and useless acts like pornography. What is the purpose of pornography? What is the purpose of marriage? What is true joy in marriage? The honest answers that come to my mind to these questions seem to not give me the desire to not involve myself in pornography. I know living the teachings of Jesus Christ gives me the light, clarity, understanding, ability and power to resist pornography. I know that "the real man is an immortal spirit" (President David O McKay). Show more Show less

What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Mason
What is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage? Gordan B. Hinckley said this: “People inquire about our position on those who consider themselves so-called gays and lesbians. My response is that we love them as sons and daughters of God. I share that view and know that a main purpose of marriage is for rearing families. I believe children should have the opportunity to learn moral and correct principles in a loving atmosphere. I don't think I have witnessed a same-sex marriage relationship rear children so I'm not sure if I can tell you what the outcome would be. I know that my parents influence on me has brought me joy. I know that my dad's commitment to love my mom and my mom's commitment to love my dad brought them joy. I know that their marriage was far more then a contract to please each other. I know they decided on a more divine purpose. Show more Show less
