Hi I'm John Porter

I love being a family man, building businesses, relieving suffering and sharing the blessings of Christ's sacrifice.

About Me

I love being with my family. My wife and I go on walks most everyday, often hiking in the mountains where we are from. We raised our children on a small farm in the mountains of Utah. To raise our children we had them raise cattle, horses, chickens, pigs and sheep. We enjoy working together and playing together...mostly just being together. We have a stream that runs through our yard that we like to float on and fish in during the summer. We enjoy our yard and pool and love to have friends join us. We have always worshiped together as a family. We have daily devotional where we read scripture and pray together. We attend our church and love to serve there. Service has played a major role and been a great blessing to me and to my family. Christ has been the central, constant figure in my life and in our home. We have a couple of businesses that have been successful. Through those we support humanitarian projects in Guatemala, El Salvador, Ghana, Philippines and the Congo. We also try to serve close to home. We try hard to relieve suffering and promote self-reliance with others of God's Children. Life is a wonderful thing and we count ourselves blessed everyday to be able to share it with those we love! :)

Why I am a Mormon

I am grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. My mothers side of the family are baptists. They are wonderful people. My father's side of the family were baptized into the Church as early as 1831. I am a member because God answers prayers. He is our Father and He loves us. As I have studied holy scripture, including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, as I have prayed and lived the gospel of Christ, I have found that He has walked closely with me and blessed our lives. He has forgiven my sins, healed my wounds, provided wonderful opportunities to grow and He has given me hope to move forward. There is no question that the lives of my family and I have been greatly blessed because of this Church. But I am a member, because God has answered my prayers and told me that it is true.

How I live my faith

My faith is my life as mentioned above. The principles that Christ lived and taught are true and apply to all situations, including family, church, work and community. When His teachings permeate our lives, we will find greater peace, perspective and purpose in all that we do.
