Hi I'm Roy

I am working on a CS Degree. I program video games mobile devices. I play the French Horn, Piano, and Compose. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My two main focuses in life are Music and Computer Science. A have played French Horn in a few different youth symphonies growing up. I played Horn in the American Heritage Youth Philharmonic. With them I was able to play Beethoven's 9th and Mahler's 1st symphonies. I also participated in the Piano Guys You Tube video called Beethoven Secrets. At BYU I joined the BYU Symphony Orchestra where I had the opportunity to play in their production of Phantom of the Opera. As a Computer Scientist, I have completed one semester at BYU toward a Computer Science degree. On my own and with my brother I have been working on an independent video game. The game was released on the Apple App Store for about a year, and will be re-releases soon on the OUYA store. Also, I have been called to the Sapporo, Japan Mission. I am leaving July 17th, 2013. I am really excited to serve the Japanese people and learn about there language and culture. I have now spent 6 weeks in the Missionary Training center. My Japanese is improving, and I have learned more about teaching the gospel.

Why I am a Mormon

I have grown up as a Mormon, but that does not mean that I had to stick with it. I think the reason that I have kept going with the church is because of the guidance it offers and because of the people that I meet at church. Through the Church I have learned the appropriate way to live my live through the guidelines the church give. When I forget the commandments that I learn in Church and though my curiosity, find my self breaking a rule or guideline that I have learned, I find that I am not happy. I also find that it is very confusing to decide what is right from wrong if I look for what other people in the world think. If I look to the church when I'm faced with an important decision, I have comfort in know what I am doing is right and pleasing to the Lord. Also, I am very attracted to the Church because of the people I meet there. The Church seems to produce the most charitable kind hearts that I can find. Matthew 7:16 says "Ye shall know them by their fruits." I can't stop believing in the Church because I know so many amazing church members.

How I live my faith

I am not the kind who likes to get in front of people and bear my testimony. My favorite way to share the spirit of the Lord is through music. At church I enjoy playing hymns as prelude or for singing and performing musical numbers. I also participate in Symphonies as a French Horn player where we are open to playing religious music. Now, as a missionary, I am learning to teach the gospel. Before I came, I always enjoyed the opportunity to teach other people about music or programming, but I have struggled to teach the gospel. I am working on knowing for myself that Christ is my savior, and that through him only, can I be forgiven of my sins. As I strive for this I know that my ability to teach it will increase.
