Hi I'm Gil

I'm a proud Wyomingite and a professional singer (behind the steering wheel!), aaand I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Hello! My name is Gilean Michael Allred (make it easier for yourself, just call me Gil, ha). I go to Brigham Young University and served at a missionary for the church at the Baton Rouge, Louisiana mission. By going to BYU I am a bit of the black sheep in my family since most of my family went to the University of Wyoming. I am a little bit of a gamer, as a hobby, and like to play games ranging from Nintendo I play with my little siblings to card games (Apples to Apples all the way!). In high school I was involved heavily in choir and in musical theater and I sang in several national honors choirs and played many roles in the musicals in my high school and in my community college. I also love driving and going on road trips, jamming to my favorite tunes while enjoying the scenery and thrill of traveling. Speaking of the thrill of travel, I hope that I can be able to be a pilot of some sort and learn how to fly airplanes (if my eye sight will permit).

Why I am a Mormon

While I was born into the religion, I made my own choice to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I did not want to live off of what others believe including my parents: I wanted my own testimony. With this in mind I have read the whole Book of Mormon myself and prayed to know whether it was true, just like the promise stated in the last two paragraphs in the Book of Mormon. I have had my own spiritual experiences and times of need where I needed to make a choice to give in to the stresses in life and let myself go or to turn to Christ. Most of what I feel that I believe in comes from what I learned about repentance and my past wrong doings that I have atoned for through the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I have been forgiven of my sins through the power of the priesthood, the power of God that Christ possessed during his ministry that has been restored to us on the Earth today. That is why I was and still am a Mormon. For me, the gospel not only makes sense to me, but really do feel that it is true and that it helps me in my daily life in many different ways.

How I live my faith

In my personal life I work on trying to pray and reading scripture, including the Bible and the Book of Mormon, every day in order to stay closer to my Heavenly Father and to remind myself to stay on the right path. I'm definitely not perfect when it comes to keeping spiritual daily habits, but I try to get a little bit better every day. In my life I have been through a few experiences that have hurt me to the core. I realize my life has certainly been less sorrowful than others, but for me they are too much for me specifically to handle by myself. That is why I have great faith in practicing repentance and living the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I have felt the calm, the peace, the relief that we may feel through Jesus Christ and the joy of seeing this healing in others. I know Heavenly Father loves us, His children, so much, and that's why He sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to atone for our sins so that we may make them right through what he had to go through during His earthly ministry. I know this Atonement is real because I've felt it change me and inspire me to be better all the time. During my mission here in Louisiana, I hope to show others the redemption they can feel in this life. Why would I keep this to myself knowing how much it has helped me personally?
