Hi I'm Jennie Lewis

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm currently serving a mission in the Alabama, Birmingham mission. Before my mission I was attending BYU and just finished my first semester of nursing. I love helping people and that's one of the main reasons I decided to serve a mission, so that I could help people draw closer to their Savior, Jesus Christ. Being out here on my mission here in the South has helped me realize more than ever how grateful I am for the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and for the knowledge and testimony I have that through this restored gospel, families can be together forever! If you ask anyone that knows me well, they'd say I'm a Guittard (the BEST chocolate-chips in the world) addict. If you REALLY know me then you yourself are probably a Guittard addict too, because I most likely convinced you to try them and now you can't help but buy them anytime you see them in the grocery store. I love the little things in life. Like when someone smiles at you and says you look nice. Fighting over the Sunday comics. Running out to the garage when your dad pulls in from work. Getting an orginal, "made by your granny", vintage, Christmas sweater for $2 at the local thrift store. Playing the "gee-tar" around a campfire and making some delicious smores....with Guittard of course. Hiking the "Y" in Utah and realizing you're in worse shape than you thought. Pulling over to help someone replace a flat tire. Making a sha-weet tackle. Fiestas at 3 in the morning. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the church, but that doesn't mean I always had a testimony. I knew my parents knew it, but I didn't know it. I had to gain a testimony for myself. I asked myself the questions, "Was Joseph Smith really a prophet of God? Did he restore the church that Christ himself established here upon the earth? Can families reeeallly be together forever...or is that some cliche phrase that everyone just says?" Upon asking myself these questions, I came to the conclusion that the best thing to do was actually read the Book of Mormon to find out for myself if what I had been taught all growing up was true. There is no denying the spirit that I felt reading the words. After reading the Book of Mormon, I got down on my knees to pray and ask God if this book was true. The answer was a big, fat, YES! Of course it was true. So if the Book of Mormon is true, then I knew Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God and an instrument used to help restore the original church that Jesus Christ has once established while here on the earth. The key is not taking anyone elses word for it. If you want to know for yourself, ask God. He is the source of all truth and will give you an answer if you have a sincere desire to learn. I know that this is once again the Church of Jesus Christ RESTORED in the Latter-Days and I'm grateful that I have that knowledge and understanding so that I can help others come to know for themselves.

How I live my faith

Growing up in the church I had the opportunity to lead in different positions, mainly in the young women's program. It's a truly incredible and inspired program, as all the programs in the church are, that helped young women draw closer together in unity and faith in their Savior. I strive to live my faith by doing what the Savior asks and following him, not only in word but in deed. Obviously I'm not perfect, no one is, but I try my best by putting his will above my own. I attend church every week so that I can partake of the Sacrament and renew promises I made at a young age when I was baptized to ALWAYS remember my Savior, Jesus Christ. Not only that, but to take his name upon me and always keep his commandments. Currently I am set apart as a full-time missionary, or representative of my Savior Jesus Christ. Having the opportunity to go out day after day and share what I believe and help invite others to come unto Christ to me is one of the greatest ways I've ever lived my faith. To me, sacrificing 18 months from family, school, friends, rugby, etc. is nothing compared to what my Savior sacrificed for me.
