Hi I'm Randy

I grew up in L.A. . I'm a college student. I'm a big brother. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a college student trying to balance getting a degree with having a job, and volunteering in my church, family and community. I'm originally from Los Angeles, CA but have had some life changing experiences from moving around the U.S and meeting different people. I now live and work in Salt Lake City trying to earn my degree in sales and eventually communications. I haven't always known where I'm going in life but I've learned to take it one day at a time and be patient. I value hard work, honesty, and having optimism even when its hard to see the results. I love movies, classic rock, comics, sci fi and fantasy.

Why I am a Mormon

Although my parents were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints since before I was born, they rarely went to church growing up and my memory of it and any teachings were lost on me. Growing up in my teens I never thought much about God or religion in general. I wasn't sure if there was a God or if it really mattered to begin with. I was distrustful of religious organizations and scoffed at there contradictions and what I believed to be mostly hypocrisy from people. That changed over time when I was invited back to church by a kid at school. I eventually went and found the members to be different. They were genuine, honest and frank about who they were and what they believed. I admired there conviction and how much all of them knew the scriptures. The Book of Mormon was fascinating to me. it not only answered my skeptical questions about life. It made me see that there was more to life than just living. The lessons about Jesus and who he was and our purpose here helped me overcome by years of depression and anger that I had been dealing with. It made me rethink my life and see the good that is in me and in people. I gained a new sense of purpose and found myself feeling happier. I know the Atonement of Jesus Christ is real and can be felt daily. I know God is very real and cares about us. We all are loved and have great potential to be someone. I'm grateful God always gives us a "second" chance. That he calls prophets to lead us and guide us. I'm grateful for the scriptures, the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I know they are of God. I love him and I know he loves us. there's nothing more true and great than that small piece of knowledge

How I live my faith

I've had a number of great opportunities to help in my church wherever it is I am. Currently I'm an assistant executive secretary to the leaders of the ward. I help keep schedules for the Bishop and his two councilors when they need to have interviews with members. I also follow up for appointments, ask members to do prayers in sacrament meeting, and keep a jobs board in the building up to date for those who are looking for work. I've previously been a secretary and I served a Two year mission in Los Angeles CA teaching the gospel. I also volunteer to organize and make events for my school and am on the communications board using different means of broadcasting and communications to reach students and get them excited about what's going on

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Randy
The Church tries to stay neutral when it comes to practical politics and endorsing specific candidates and parties. They do not tell us who or what way to vote when it comes to elections and platforms. On certain occasions the church has taken a stand on a social issue either in general of specific areas that they deem important for us to know and participate in. even so they stay politically neutral, and encourage members to be upstanding citizens of there country and to vote your conscious. Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Randy
We do not worship Joseph Smith. We believe him to be a prophet of God, much like those found in the Bible. He was an extremely important instrument to bring about the Book of Mormon and restore the Church in the same way Jesus had it when he was previously on the earth. I'm grateful that God loves us enough to have called a normal, but faithful young man, like Joseph to reveal important truths that would benefit all of us. Show more Show less
