Hi I'm Janet

I'm a high school and college math teacher. I love to be involved in the community wherever I live. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the kind of person that loves to go, go, go! I enjoy teaching Algebra II and College Algebra to high school students during the day. In the evening, I teach Brief Calculus at a local community college. I love to work out and find that exercising provides the energy I need to enjoy a busy life. My new favorite workout videos are the "Insanity" workouts. I also enjoy running, biking, swimming, yoga, zumba, and playing basketball. I ran the Deseret Morning News Marathon in July of 2010. I also have a passion for music and the arts. I grew up playing the flute and piano. In college, I played piccolo in the marching band. I now play the flute in a local community band. I enjoy going to plays and musicals, especially the productions of the high school where I teach. I truly enjoy traveling and getting to know other cultures. I've been to China and many Central American countries. I love to be social and meet new people. Of all I do in life, I find that my relationships with family and friends brings the most joy.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer and I am a Mormon because I know this is His church restored upon the earth today. Each person has a unique life story to be told, a fairytale all their own. In my life story, I've been blessed with an amazing family, great educational and vocational opportunitites, and friends who have encouraged me along the way. However, just as all fairytales have a villain, I too have had trials and struggles in my life. There have been moments when the world seems to crumble around me and I am overwhelmed by dissapointment. In my moments of anguish, I have found that I need a stable inner peace that will not be swayed by trials in the workplace, with my family, or with those whom I consider to be my dearest friends. I have found this inner peace in the gospel of Jesus Christ, in the doctrines taught and lived in His church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. As I attend church meetings, study the scriptures, and follow the counsel of modern day prophets, I am filled with peace and light which illuminates my life and gives me purpose and a clear vision of the future. I know that Joseph Smith pondered his purpose in life and wanted to join a religious sect. He sought to know which church he should join and his prayer was answered. I know that he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ and that through him they were able to restore the same church that existed in Christ's day to the earth again. I know that since then (1836) we have had a prophet upon the earth who has been given power and authority from God to govern His church. I find comfort and peace in the knowledge that my family can be together forever because of the covenants we make with God in holy temples. I know that as children of God, he wants what is best for us. Truth can be found in the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I will forever be grateful for the peace the gospel has brought into my life.

How I live my faith

I enjoy reaching out to my community and take advantage of the opportunities I have to be of service. I like to run races that support cancer and other important causes. I also like to volunteer for city-wide festivals like the "Hopefest" of Phoenix. I love being involved in church activities and help organize and plan social events where all are invited to come and feel of Christ's love for them. I work with others who strive to provide activities that are fun and uplifting so that others may feel of the warmth and kindness that members of the church radiate. I am also involved in a service organization at church where we mail out birthday cards and strive to reach out to all in order to help them feel welcome and loved. I enjoy going on monthly visits to women in my area. Through these visits, I have found some of my dearest friends. They strengthen my courage to face the trials of life through uplifting and wholesome conversation.
