Hi I'm Matt Rogers

I am a farm boy from Idaho. I love to hunt, fish, build things, and I really like cars. I'm an engineer. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am happily married to my wife of almost 20 years. We have four boys and two girls in that order. My youngest was born 3 months premature. By nothing short of a miracle she is perfect! My wife and I both grew up in Idaho. We met several years before we met again in college without even knowing it. I was a teenager looking to purchase a first car. My parents took me car shopping using the classified ads in some neighboring urban areas. The car I decided on and could afford ended up being their old family car. I didn’t find this out until she brought me home to meet the parents. I am a degreed mechanical engineer with an MBA. My career dream is to design and patent a product then creating a business which can provide for my family. I love the outdoors and spending time with my family. I have designed 3 homes either for myself or family and have enjoyed either building them or seeing them built. I grew up on a cattle ranch in Challis, Idaho. I love animals especially horses. Given the chance outside of daily obligations I can be found chasing trout, Steelhead, and salmon in the streams and rivers of Michigan where I currently reside with my family. I really enjoy classic Ford automobiles. Mustangs and Broncos are my favorites. I also like ’32 Fords. I enjoy physical exercise and find it helps me to feel better and be a happier and more attentive person.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents raised me in the Mormon faith. They are incredibly good, honest, and kind people. I have always had a believing heart and desire to do good. I felt God’s love and heard his voice giving me answers to my prayers and direction early in life. I left to serve a mission for the church feeling I should give back and help others since I had been so blessed in my life with a knowledge and understanding of the Gospel. I decided I needed to test my belief and seek to know for myself if the Book of Mormon was true and if God had called a prophet in our day and time who restored his church. As I read the book I prayed to know if it was true. One night after praying I laid down to sleep and felt a warmth and tingling starting in my heart which soon reached the top of my head and the tips of my toes. It was a wonderful consuming feeling I had not experienced before. I knew this was God’s way of letting me know what I believed to be correct was true. Following that beginning I continue to learn and understand the Gospel of Jesus Christ as recorded in the Bible and the Book of Mormon. I love to read and study them both together. The Holy Ghost continues to help me apply what I learn and witness to me of truth. My faith grows stronger and my understanding increases. The church provides regular opportunities to serve others and use my gifts and talents to bless others’ lives. I know the church is true. Part of the restoration of Christ’s church is the restoration of the power and authority of the priesthood. I see this power work in the lives of everyday people who are trying to do their best. It gives me hope. Through this power I believe I can be with my family forever and not just during our time on earth. I know God our Heavenly Father lives and that his son, Jesus Christ, is my savior and your savior. I know we are led as a church today by a true modern prophet. God has not left us alone and is very involved in our lives.

How I live my faith

I’ve had the privilege of serving formally in my local church congregation and community in various positions. I coached my boy’s baseball teams for many years. I currently teach the youth and am the Scoutmaster of our local scout troop. I love to feel God’s approval and presence in my life. It draws me near to him. As I feel his love for me I realize how much he loves all his children. I enjoy serving and lifting others so they can feel God’s love through me. Some of my favorite experiences are when I have a thought or desire given me from God to serve someone specific and do service in general. This often ends in a realization that God was watching over this person and was answering a plea or prayer for help and trusted me to be a part of the process. I have also been on the receiving end of such watchfulness. I continue to be grateful for the grace of Jesus Christ which both cleanses my soul from sin and gives me the strength to do good with my life. In the church we get to reach out and help each other on a regular basis which helps me to forget myself. The more I trust God the less I worry knowing he will care for and watch over me. I feel most successful in my life when I exercise love, friendship, and kindness in the relationships with my family. They matter the most and I want to be my best with them. I also strive to feel God’s personal direction for me and presence in my life. I find as I read and study the scriptures on a frequent basis I learn more about his ways. The Holy Ghost or Holy Spirit then helps me to apply these things in my own life. This help comes often as ideas and feelings of a spiritual nature. When I feel I am doing God’s will I am truly happy.
