Hi I'm Deryk

I draw on every available surface. I love a good story. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I spend most of my free time playing the piano, drawing pictures and cartoons, reading just about anything, and watching quirky British TV shows. When I first started college, I planned on studying accounting because it seemed practical. I quickly discovered that it wasn't the right field for me, however. My friends seemed so much more excited about what they were studying, and I was, to put it bluntly, bored out of my mind. So I thought about what I got excited about. Books, movies, TV shows, comics... I loved stories. I wanted to come up with stories of my own and share them with the world. As lame as it sounds, I'm passionate about grammar. I love drawing pictures on EVERY scrap of paper that I come in contact with. I realized that creating children's books is what I really want to do. That's how I decided to become an English major.

Why I am a Mormon

I truly love my Savior, Jesus Christ. I know He and my Heavenly Father love me so, so much. God knows each one of us- He knows what we're going through, our likes and dislikes, our struggles, our triumphs, the little things that make us smile every day. This beautiful earth He created for us testifies of this- He wants our happiness and so gave us a wonderful place to live with mountains and trees and birds and flowers... and I am so thankful to Him for all of that and more.

How I live my faith

I love volunteering. Helping other people brings such a warmth to my heart and I feel such love for the people whom I'm serving. I've been volunteering weekly for several months, and there's nowhere I'd rather be than when I'm able to lose myself and help those who really need it. Soon I will be able to serve others in a way that I never have before. I will be leaving shortly to serve a full-time mission for the Church. I'll be inviting others to come to Christ and feel of His love and experience the blessings of living the gospel. I know that there is no greater service I can give, because this gospel is eternal. I will have the opportunity to touch lives and bring people to Christ.

Why do Mormons perform proxy baptisms in their temples?

God loves ALL of his children! He wants each and every one of us to return to Him, and we can only do that if we've been baptized. The wonderful thing about Temple work is that it gives the opportunity of baptism to those who didn't have the chance in their earthly life. The OTHER wonderful thing is that it doesn't take away their ability to choose. Just because a baptism has been performed for someone, doesn't mean that they ARE baptized- it means that they now have the chance to accept or reject the Gospel and the baptism that's been performed for them.
