Hi I'm Courtney

I love to try new things and travel. I dream about taking my children on humanitarian service vacations. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an only child. Before I was born, my dad was a race car driver for a hobby. In the process of renewing his license to race cars, he found out that he had an eye disease that would eventually make him blind- RP (Retinitis Pigmentosa). Because this disease is genetically passed, my parents decided they would use artificial insemination to have a baby. That baby is me. When I was 18, my parents told me that my dad was not my genetic "dad". I think they were worried that I might be upset or feel detached from my dad that I had always known. But I wasn't mad and I didn't feel detached. In fact, I felt loved and cared for because I knew that my parents were looking out for my well-being even before I was born. I am sure it wasn't easy for them. My dad is now legally blind (he sees about 7% of what most people see) and uses a seeing-eye dog to help him with everyday tasks. My vision is 20/20. I have never even needed glases. Now I am an adult with a family of my own. My husband and I have 4 great kids. I tell my children all the time that I am living the life I always dreamed of. I am married to my sweetheart. I get to stay home and take care of my kids each day. Even though I have had lots of other jobs in my life (police cadet, fast-food worker,go-kart track operator, elementary school teacher), this 'job' is my favorite.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because it makes me happy. Through trials we have a choice to live by faith and trust in God or do it some other way. Living by faith has made me happy. This life I've always dreamed of hasn't happened by chance. It has come from living the commandments and having faith in a loving Father in Heaven. I believe he knows me and knows each person on the Earth. I trust that He knows best what will bring me happiness.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to make our home a place where we can talk about spiritual things and be enlightened together. We study the scriptures every morning and pray together several times each day. I love when my children ask a question about faith or religion. It shows me they are thinking- our conversations strengthen my faith and our relationships with each other. We go to church together each week.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Jesus Christ taught us to love one another and be forgiving. These principles are needed each day in our relationships with others. If we are consistent in loving and forgiving ourselves and others, our relationships will be strengthened. Show more Show less
